It's been a long time since I've been on this forum. Used to be a regular, and I know you guys are the best source of info.

Been playing on velvet for years and using a sticky roll to clean it. Seems the adhesive has slowly been transferring to the material because the cars don't slide too well.

I'm looking to upgrade, and I generally like the idea of speedcloth, though many say it is harsh and you can even burn/scrape your hand on it. One forum I read recommended the nylon velvet speed cloth from this site. Any experience with that?

Any experience with the EZ poker Felt?

And how about the pre-fab rail? Have you used that and do you like it?

Lastly, what is the best way to keep the felt clean and fast?

Thanks,

I've never heard anything good about the prefab rail.

Speed cloth is fine in my opinion. YAT (your auto trim) was always great to deal with back in the day.

Post pics of your finished work.

The home game I go to uses some type of vinyl stuff.

No idea really what it is other then it is not some type of cloth.

I guess this post doesn't help at all lol

My boyfriend has a poker table in his rec room. Couple of months back I helped him re-felt it because he was having a couple of friends over for a poker marathon.

Took us 3 hours to get it done because the shape of the table isn't exactly the generic typical oval.

We used a red speedfelt cloth like the first link you posted. Problem with it is if you have a lot of games, the material can wear out and thus the cards won't glide over as smoothly and dealer might require more energy to deal out cards to players. I wipe it down with a slightly damp cloth to clean it up after their games and that's about it. If you play often, might need to replace it about every 6 months?

If you burn your hands on it, you're dealing the cards too fast? :p

For the green felt kinds in link 3, it fuzzes. I don't know if that's the right term. Also occasionally there are some players who just had their nails trimmed who accidentally snag their nails on the felt, accelerating the fuzzing process.

Never tried the EZ Poker Felt. Don't think they have it here and don't think they would fit on the table. If you'd like, I can share pictures of the table.

I'm not sure if I understand the links you are referencing. The first link was to a nylon velvet speed cloth. Did you use that, or regular speed cloth? The third link was to a pre-fab rail, not a cloth.

My table is irregularly shaped as well. It is a modified oval where the ends taper in. Better to see each other. Ours is race-track design, with oak surrounding the padded center. I have a burgundy on there now, but my idiot friends are too aggressive and suck out too much, so I think I might try a more sedate green or blue. I am also thinking of learning to hypnotize my opponents.

I heard from the EZ felt people that their stuff doesn't work with racetrack design.

I would like to see your pictures.

So sorry bout that, I think I should have been a little bit more specific.

The cloth we used is the speed-suited cloth. Not the nylon velvet.

I've always called the pre-fab rail the felt (eck I'm no poker table expert) but there has been some fuzzing at some of the house games I've played at.

We don't have the EZ Poker felt (tried looking around) and you're right that I don't think it would work with the racetrack design.

If felt colour affects play, then I shouldn't have bugged my boyfriend to get the blood-red-ish felt. Might have made more players mad when they get sucked out. >.<

Is your table similar to this? Also, does your table have a dealer tray? Coz I know some tables do and some others, specially the customized ones, don't. Ours doesn't have a dealer tray.

Images of the table. It's custom-made hence the odd curves and all.

Once your table is restored don't forget covering it when not in use. This is the key to that tea lasts a long time. And the table keeps the smell of poker table !! :D
