I am looking to pick up a good tournament poker book. I have been playing poker for about 6 years so am not looking for something super basic. My friend reccommended "Winning poker tournaments one hand at a time." Has anyone read one they strongly reccomend?

Thank You!

I assume anyone who is vaguely serious about tournaments has read Kill Everyone

Highly recommend:
Arnold Snyder Poker Tournament Formula 1/2 - explains many common misconceptions about tournament play, very important

Definitely a good read! (there are actually 3 volumes now, I enjoyed the first two).

Thank You. I know there are 3 volumes but what is the difference between the three? Do you need to read I and II before III or do they cover different play aspects?

Pretty sure you can check out table of contents on Amazon.
Vol.1 & Vol.2 are far superior to Vol.3

Exactly! 3 books = 3 x $25 vs 1 book = $25. lol Did you see a noticible difference in your game and how you thought during tournament play after reading Volume I? Did you track cashes before/after and see any difference in the long run?

I like the One Hand at a Time series already mentioned (will have to check out the Snyder books - thanks guys!) as well as David Sklansky's Advanced Tournament books.

Thank you I appreciate it....if only I had a Kindle...

You can read them on your computer too. I know it's not the same as having a real book or kindle version (which actually feels like a book) but it's a good start. Who knows, you might be tempted to invest $50 in a kindle. :)

lol :D ....Yeah i only read it about a month ago so its hard to track results after reading it since i dont really do that and dont play all that often atm...mainly just cc games on here and the odd stake challenge...but it definitely made me think about a few things and some of the suggestions/advice are excellent from what i can gather with my yet limited poker experience.

The absolutely best books are Harrington on Holdem, winning poker tournaments one hand at a time volume 1, 2, and 3, and the raisers edge by elky. They will make your game so much better.

Interesting thread bump.... this thread is 3 years old

BUT... as far as NLHE tournament books go, the recommendations at the top of this thread are still pretty much the best ones out there.

If you're new:
Harrington On Hold'em Vol.1, & Vol. 2

More experienced:
Winning Poker Tournaments - One Hand At A Time Vol.1 & Vol.2

Wait til' you pick up some newer good poker books... because if you liked SS2 that much you'll be sure to like the newer books that much more. (that's my nice way of saying "SS2 sucks")
