A simple question every one has to know the answer to. But it may turn that no one knows it:)

Yes, I had red the very interesting thread "Why is 56s best hand against pocket Aces?" here:
https://www.cardschat.com/forum/learning-poker-57/why-56s-best-hand-against-pocket-115406/
But the question is still opened. At least because the Cardschat odds calculator shows that the 76s can get 23.55% from the aces, while 65s only 23.23%! So, who and how much?

Follows my letter to an other forum, with an other calculator, with absolutely different results.

-----

Hello,

Please, see what is my problem. I want to know which are the pocket cards that play the best against Aces. All these more than 15 years that I play Hold'em, I thought that these are 87 suited. Yes, but when accidentally tryed on PokerStove some 65s they turned to be better. I was tottally astonished and tryed some calculators.

Here are the results (in %) I obtained:
1 - CardPlayer (PokerListing is the same but work very slowly)
2 - PokerStove (PokerRanger gives the same results but arounded to the hundredth)
3 - CardsChat
4 - Old FlopTurnRiver (as a couple of months ago)
5 - New FlopTurnRiver converter

1 2 3 4 5
JTs 21.55 21.717 21.88 21.35 21.42(0.35 tie)
T9s 22.61 22.765 22.43 22.50 22.66(0.33)
98s 22.47 22.623 22.11 22.40 22.27(0.30)
87s 22.87 23.021 23.33 22.97 23.02(0.28)
76s 22.87 23.033 23.55 22.73 22.88(0.34)
65s 22.87 23.056 23.23 22.51 22.87(0.39)

.....

Well, it is of no practical importance these tenths, or hundredths of the percentage, but they have its theoretical meaning. I know that you use some optimization methods (I had red the source code of PokerStove, which is no more supported, and the author used some pre-calculated tables for faster obtaining the results), but the truth has to be one! And I expect you to help me to find it.

Also, I had found this thread "Why is 56s best hand against pocket Aces?":
https://www.cardschat.com/forum/learning-poker-57/why-56s-best-hand-against-pocket-115406/

Have a good day and all the best.

I appreciate your objective here, concerning whether 56s or 78s plays better vs AA (and I believe that it actually was answered in the last part of the thread you referenced by WVH... that 56s results in more ties than does 78s according to Pokerstove).

Technically, however, when you ask, What hand plays best vs. AA?

The answer is neither of those that you referenced.

The correct answer is: AA plays best vs. AA.

Cheers!

Aces

BearPlay, despite that you said it yourself - "according to Pokerstove", you did not understood me. There are many calculators and all they give different results. The right answer is ONE and ONLY ONE! Here is how it can be obtained. We pick two Aces. Next we pick two candidates for "aces killers"- 65s, 76s, JTs, etc. There is 48 cards left in the deck. From them we generate all the possible boards - C(48,5) = 1,712,304. Ridiculously small a number for we to be affraid of some long calculations. For every board we determine the winner. We count the results, divide them by this 1712304, and, if not in a fraction of a second, in a couple of seconds we'll have the sole right answer! So simple, but I do not know someone to had made it, despite that there are so many open source codes for poker, including PokerStove.
In this case I will not be surprised it to be "mine" 87s (or was it 98s ?), because I did not invented it. I had red it somewhere (maybe the "mad" Mike Caro) some 15 years ago.

As about the AA vs. AA, you are right. At least two time this year (and once it happened on my table to the other players) I had beatten the opponent's aces, making my flush. No, it is not so rare as you may think. It happens once C(50,2) = 1225 hands when you have two aces the opponent to have the other two! (As for to say how often one will make his flush; that needs some more sophisticated calculations:)

Cheers!

P.S. No, it is very easy - PokerStove:
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 50.000% 02.17% 47.83% 37210 818942.00 { AcAd }
Hand 1: 50.000% 02.17% 47.83% 37210 818942.00 { AhAs }
!!! 2.17% WIN ???

The best hand vs AA would be the other AA or any 2 cards as long as you fold them pre flop........ This is neutral VE seeing as you never win and never lose (with the exception of SB or BB lost if you are in that position.)

A good fold is just as important as a good value bet imo.

I don't even have to be mathematically about this. The best hand against AA is AA........ 5 6, 7 8, 9 10, etc etc are all the same = potato/potatoe

I don't think the question needs an answer. If you're looking for a hand to play against someone when they specifically hold AA, you're doing it all kinds of wrong.

Thought 7 8 suited was best hand verses aces, besides what Bear mentioned AA.

the best hand VS AA
is 100% another AA

because
the equity: AA VS AA =0

but 56s VS AA
winning chance is something like 23% VS 77%
equity = unit*23%+ unit*(-77%)= net negative 54% unit

therefore no matter what hands you pick up
it is negative equity VS AA preflop on equal chips, except another AA

the best situation you may achieve when facing preflop AA is using another AA against it. it is break even situation.

AA is the best hand in terms of not losing the pot. Bingo players should appreciate the odds of their 56s though (assuming they even think that way) for their gambling thrills.

I can see you are a mathematical purest, believing there is a single answer and all ways to calculate it should agree. I disagree. Once you get down to the the 1% level the answers are functionally the same. The simulators make assumptions and the percentages vary by small amounts. So what?

Your question is mathematically imprecise. What are the suits of the aces versus the other cards? Mathematically it matters, in the real world, not so much.
