To be a successful poker player you need to know all the theory and strategies behind a given game say NL Holdem. but even if you fallow all the probabilities up to “implied odds” involved in the decision making process and practice proper bankroll management, at the end you are not very successful poker player due to the existence of kamikaze players that go all in with almost any hand. the question arises, under this circumstances are you (meant I) a decent poker player or not?

You will get answer on that question when you start to play higher buy-ins tournaments.
I would say that you are playing wrong tournaments, just like me. freerolls, small buy-ins MTT and SNG, satellites and so on. I have so far mostly played exactly these tournaments and only because of my Bank Roll. When I got the chance to play first serious tournament, I think for me a serious tournament "The Big $16.50", I enjoyed the game. You can find a "kamikaze" there also but they are everywhere and even in live tournaments with a $5,000 buy-in.
I watched on TV. Man gets up from the table and go away to do a few moves of karate to be as stretched and returned to the table and says All-in, without having even looked at the cards. Of course there was also plenty of whiskey, so you could imagine what they drink while they play at home.
After The Big $ 16.50, where I made $38 my biggest score so far, when I returned to these tournaments, I realized that I can only spoil my game, my hard-gained knowledge, and lose all the hair on my head because of the bad beatings by kamikazes.
When I see 3 or 4 players to go all-in I will fold AA if I'm not in move for flip coin. I know that many players will not agree with me for that move but I read about that on PokerSchoolOnline.com and they have right for that move. Leave them to fight each other at the start and wait to clean up the field of kamikaze for a normal game.
I should make Bank Roll for medium buy-ins if I want to make any progress in my play. One or two max low or medium buy-in during the week and the rest of the time to learn and improve my game.

It is definitely a struggle in the freerolls and micro area, lots of crazy plays. Lots of people calling down to hit a set on the river and so on.
I have found that you just have to be open to the situations and adapt to the play of the players around you. Keep your same solid play, and apply it in a different way to help make you a wining player.

at any level you will find ultra aggressive players who shoot blind bullets and what not, you just need to make adjustments based on who is at the table and your position against them. If you can choose your seat you always want to play after them as much as possible, this way there is no question as to whether or not they will be pushy that hand, and you can play accordingly. If its a tourney then your seat is luck, but you can still make adjustments.

Making adjustments to your game based on level and other players is what separates the good players from the average.

At small value tournaments decisions can be helped by regularly noting all in type players, waiting your moment and then taking the risk. This will pay off if you have the patience.
The problem is too many sites have accelerated blinds for small buy in tournaments which do not give you time to make rational decisions and you can end up in a bad position without striking a payable hand against such players.

They are in effect encouraging irrational play based on good luck rather than good play - which hardly encourages new or learner players to play in a patient style.

be or not to be a good player, it depends on what will be your attitude in the game, poker needs time to analyze how is going your moves, you need to study the opponent, have a banking also helps a lot, only it will know if you may or may not be a great player and live this sport

W8 for a premium hand and take the donkey to the cleaners, i am more afraid of players playing small hand to a reraised flop, and they most of the times miss, but when they hit its big, and its hard to figure it out, coz u are assuming most players play your style or your range, but there is always this small group that just dont care that u got pocket pair :D

Sign up in the tournament later (during late registration), when kamikaze is much less. Avoid playing with them if you card is not a monster (though the monster on the arms too, you can depart from the tournament).

you can work hard at learning techniques but in the end all in players make you carry out decisions which can only be based on your cards and the possibility that, even with the best they still have a 20%+ chance of cleaning you out.

They really play for the fun of it and the high they get when they beat you -makes them feel smart.

The answer is really to pick your spot and take the risk - no one ever won much at Poker by sitting back and not relying on their instincts

A decent sample sample size could be the answer.

Could be the answer but noup, since the main conceptual argument remains.
many poker players keep talking about this subject under different approaches like am I a good poker player? or what it takes to be a good poker player? so anytime we win big or get hit by a crazy hand B.B. we unconsciously are going back to the same dilema To be or Not to be regarding poker. :icon_scra
