I have absolutely no money in the bank and hate having to spent even a few quid(english pounds) on things such as food and petrol etc. Yet I have a little over 2000 dollars in my pokerstars account and have no qualms about shoving 50 or so on a single hand.

My friends and family don't understand and to be honest neither do I. Is it just me or does anyone else see their bankroll as just that, a bankroll, rather than actual money that could be used for something other than poker??

If you have a couple thousand in a poker site but a bank account so empty you can't by food then you have a problem.

why play poker for money, if you're not going to use that money for anything else?

get a moneybookers account imo.

Its weird, but most of succesful poker players don´t see the poker money as real money, more as a score or just numbers...

He isn't saying he's starving he's saying he's Scottish.

You do have the right mindset for poker. Your bankroll is not money it's a tool to win at poker. If you're a winning player that is. You shouldn't see it as money until it's in your bank account.

The way I understand it is that friends and family don't understand why you are so tight with your money when you have £2k on a poker site. You're right, they don't understand, it's not money.

However, if I've got this wrong and you're gambling whilst starving yourself then you've got a problem.

LuckyChippy is right.

money is money and bankroll is bankroll.

I know I used to hate spending $10 or $20 going out to eat, and think nothing of dropping $200-$300 playing the slots at the casino. Thank goodness for online poker. Now, the 1c/2c tables give me the same feeling, so I do not have to risk more than $3 going into a ring game and having the same fun. Still hate spending $10 or $20 going out to eat. I can cook a very mean meal.

Knew a guy devoted his bank to horse racing.Had a rope belt and used a stapler to keep the leather on his worn out shoes...

you have to see your bankroll as simply your bankroll. its got to be a separate entity to your actual money. otherwise you worry to much while playing certain hands and think yourself out of winning pots. but you must create this bankroll while living within your means and not require loans to play. if your bankroll is increasing every now and again you can withdraw some cash to fund your real life if times become hard.

If you deposit once and keep playing on the same roll for long period of time, I think that is fine to just keep cash at poker BR, but if you say you are struggling with bills and playing on large portion of your BR and as you get a bit of cash you deposit, than it becomes a problem.

yea. ive had problem tilt and losing but then realized its a game, and the money ive got is used to play the game nothing else, so by improving and constantly getting better I know that if i get my chips in good then in the long run it will work out and by practicing good brm then the money I have to play the game will always be there

I only wish I didnt see my poker money as real money but household bills and being unable to work mean I have to take money out of my BR every month to survive. I hate having to do it as it means I can never move up in stakes.
My BR on all my sites is now down to about $40 as I have just withdrawn $300 for end of the month bills.
I only with poker money and real money were different but to me they are one and the same.

I have a few questions about this topic.
1. Is your guys point of building up your BR only to get to the next lvl of play? If so when/where does it end?

2. Do any of you stay at the same lvl and just grind out like x sum a month as like a paycheck so to say? And stay at your current LVL?
