Holdem Limit

Generally speaking, your BR should be 300 BB's (BB = big bets NOT big blinds). With a $110 BR that's $0.36. So, go to the next level down and play 10c / 20c until you've built your BR up to $150 then it should be safe to move up to 25c / 50c

Holdem NL / PL

Generally speaking, 20 times the FULL buy in. With a $110 BR that's $5.50. Again, go to the next level down, which would be $5 max buy in of blinds of 2c / 4c (though that will vary from site to site at micro levels). When your BR hits $200 you should be safe to move up to 5c / 10c

Good luck.

what about sit n gos? i just played a 5.50 and came in third. should i be playing lower buy ins?

BTW i frigging had QQ vs JJ and my queens were cracked on the river. then my trip kings lost when villain made river flush, then my jj vs Aj and ace on the river. i was chip leader but these forking three hands occurred and i was out faster then diarrhea!

btw thanks for the responses.

For S+G the normal recommendation is that your BR should be 40 x the max buy in (eg if buy in is $1 + $0.10 you would need a BR of $44). That gives you a max. buy in of about $2.75.

The figures I've given are a guide. If really depends upon the risks that you're prepared to take.

Personally I use the 5% rule for SNG & MTT buy ins, although as Boltneck stated above it depends. Regarding the above hands, what matters is, did you get your chips in the middle with the best hand & did villian make a mistake in calling you. Slansky $s can be taken with you & are said to be good at both final destinations, although the games in hell are, of course, rigged.

yes i did get my money in with the best of it.

since that post Ive played two more sit n gos and again, no joke, both times sucked out on and sent packing. first one was kinda my fault i suppose. first hand in, i get dealt KK, dude calls me with AJ, ace on the flop. Next JJ, guy raises standard 3 bb in early position. i call, flop is 953, i bet the pot, i figured it was very likely he had AK AQ, and if he had AA KK QQ i didn't really care. He had AK, insta re raises all in, river is an ace.

im not complaining about riggage, just furious that my very first day back playing poker after a three week break and this shit seems to have carried over. I swear i feel like the most unlucky guy in the world right now :(

my br is down to 100 and im stopping for the night (or morning i suppose). it was at 95, but i played a quick ring session at .5 .10. I realised i was just there because i was tilting and decided to get off right after the current hand was done. well, i happened to be lucky enough to catch a full house on the river (man i see why its called riverstars LOL) and doubled up my 5 dollars. that kinda helps the feelings of hopelessness.

My BR is also $110. I play on pokerstars, which is probably the best site for low stakes players.
Right now i play mostly nl $0.02/$0.05 with a bit of $0.05/$0.10, plo $0.02/$0.05 and limit $0.10/$0.20, $0.25/$0.50. I happy with having 20 buyins for sng's, so i play the $5 sng's. Also, i play $1, $2 and $3 tourney's.

My BR recommendations are,
Cash games, NL & PL: 5% (20 buyins) of your BR, but i think its ok to take shots now and again with 10%.
Cash games, Limit: 200-300 bb's
SnG's: I think 5% (20 buyins) is the min you should have. A lot like to have 30 or 40 buyins.
MTT's: 1%-3% is a good amount. The max i would buy into an mtt for would be 5% of my roll.

a normal guide is to never have more than 5% of your bankroll in play at any given time.. $110 equates to $5.50.. you can go to any small nl talbe with $5.50 and go from there... you could also play small buy in sng's or try a $5.50 mtt... always use bankroll management and good luck at the tables

With the hundred you have left, let me offer you this advice.Seems like you like to play SNG's.The following is for if you are a better than average player(which it appears you are).

1.Play 5-$5.50 SNG's.If you lose them all,step down to $3.40 turbo's.Continue playing the $5.50's until you have dropped down to $68 or moved up to $275(20-$5.50's + 5-$11"s).If you reach $275,play 5-$11 SNG's.

2.Assuming you have dropped down to $68 now.Play $3.40's until you get back up to $95.50(20-$3.40's + 5-$5.50's)which if you make it back up there, take another stab at five more $5.50's.Next step is for if you drop down to $36.

3.Now you have 30 buyins at the $1.20's.I know it sucks to play these, but if you want to have a chance to get your BR back without having to redeposit then do it anyway!Do it until you hit $53(30-$1.20's + 5-$3.40's) then stab at the $3.40's five more times. Now there is no dropping down from this level,so if you lose it all you will have to re-deposit or quit.

This is by no way set in stone, but is an a good starting point. The key being write down a plan similar to the one above and you'll have a better chance of sticking to it.

This is coming from someone who considers himself pretty good at low limit SNG,s.I used something close to the above to roll $20 into my current BR(over$350) plus the $250 I have withdrawn. This has been since Feb. of this year.

Also every once in a while feel free to play a 1-5 dollar MTT.No reason you can't stab at the big bucks every now and then.

I hope this is a help to you and anyone else reading.Good luck.

you could do a $100 HU. Then if you win, you have $200 :)

(please don't do this unless you actually want to take the shot and have a lot more money to spare. I'm only kidding, hence the :))
