Its a damn headache.....you get 4 cards, and 3 chances to draw. cards of the same suit or paired, one must be removed. in low ball fasion, the best hand is A234 of different suits. Here is where it will hurt your head.......A 4 7 9 of different suits will beat a234 if any of those 4 cards are suited, because you only have a 3 card hand.. you can have 1 2 3 or 4 card hands depending on how you end up

love the game. the goal is to have a badugi.4 cards of different suit and value. the lower your highest card in your hand is ,the stronger your hand is.

So kind of like a four card razz game, where no cards can be paired or suited?

Badugi?

Badugi is a draw poker variant similar to triple draw, but with hand values different from traditional poker. The betting structure and overall play of the game is identical to a standard poker game, but, unlike traditional poker which involves a minimum of five cards, players' hands contain only four cards at any one time. During each of three drawing rounds, players can trade zero to four cards from their hands for new ones from the deck, in an attempt to form the best badugi hand and win the pot. Badugi is a gambling game with the object being to win money in the form of pots. (The pot in poker refers to the sum of money that players wager during a single hand or game.) The winner of the pot is the person with the best badugi hand at the conclusion of play....I wanted to know to,so I checked it up on wikipedia...this was the main text I guess this can help u:)
:dito: What he said PLUS the winning hand is the WORST hand:puke:

It's a permutation of Razz, 2-7 Triple Draw and 5 Card Draw.

All 4 cards are face down (as in Draw). 3 betting rounds and card replacements (as in Triple Draw) and lowest hand wins (as in Razz).

The twist in the draw is to get the lowest 4-suited hand. I think someone who hates 'sooooted' players dreamed this one up. Actually, I think I saw somewhere that it's origin is Korea.

Yep, just like Switch was saying about the triple draw competition. Any newly popular game, the first people to get a hold on it are going to clean up.

Are you signed up at Carbon? They have a badugi FR at 5:15 EST (that's 16:15 on the Carbon clock I think). In addition to the actual rules, the strategies are interesting. For instance, depending on how many draws are left, you might want to discard a J or 10, even if it's in a suit you've not duplicated. And pay even more attention to # of cards opponents draw than in a regular 5 card draw game. We are not going for flushes or straights, so a draw # is critical - unless they're bluffing. :p A guy taking no cards but not betting big? A badugi to the Q or K.

But as I mentioned here once before, a guy at my table lost a few hands to what seemed like crap. He finally asked "what IS this?" To which I replied "If you really don't know, you won't believe me." The table got a good laugh.

It is a very interesting game... I tried to get a thread going in the strategy section ... probably still there.

One thing I notice is that it is much more difficult to play if you have other tables open (at least for me) I think it's a drawing thing ; )

I do recommend it for a change of pace, espicially if you haven't tried it b4

My friends and I play it often. Interesting game, tough to figure sometimes. I've seen pat hands crushed by guys drawing 2 or even 3 cards. It's alot of fun to play.

At Badugi the best hand is low A2345 no suite

It's A234, you only have 4 cards.

We sometimes play this at the casino when we play dealer's choice. It gives me a right headache. We play it pot limit as well which can result in some ridiculously sized pots so unless I'm dealt a monster hand I steer well clear of this game. If it was played FL then it might be a bit more sensible.

badugi is one of the most fun lo games you will ever play once you get the hang of it. I like it better than razz. Its a triple draw game, and a badugi is when you have four cards of differnt demoninations and different suits. Not being able to use cards of the same suit makes this game a lot more interesting, plus the fact that people overvalue what i like to call crapdugi's where they have a badugi but all high cards.

LOL! But hey, all it takes is 1 high card to ruin it. I've actually tossed a K in this situation, ONLY if the rest are low, like A36 or such. And often, I've missed, so I don't do it anymore. There is a good strategy to over playing a crapdugi. You are actually TRYING to get people to fold (just like when you have aces and a flush or str8 draw hits the board in holdem). But here, all the table sees is that you're not drawing anything - you are made, and they don't know if you're to the Q or the 7. I DID say above, that some who don't draw but don't BET have a crapdugi. But letting everyone get a better badugi for free is probably not a good strategy. Gotta know your tablemates, like anything else I guess.
