(skip to next paragraph for short story ;) )
I was playing a cash game the other night at my house, the players were loose as ****, with 5 of us, and 3 of them would straddle at a time, doubling the previous straddle. They were limping everything inc 72os, and raising any face card. Anyway, as the night went on i went from a £5 stack up to £50 while they all got slaughtered, and they started berrating me for my tight play and folds, calling me a nit. I made some good folds that night, but also some very bad ones where everyone was in the pot and i folded top pair when the texture of the board was dodgy. I've always figured bad folds are less costly than bad calls, but everyone was telling me i was being way too tight by laying down hands like k8.

What I was wondering is on a shorthanded loose table, should I fold things like middle/top pair, when they were calling my bets with bottom pair or ace high? Oh and should i attempt bluffs? I lost about £15 at the end making some bluffs to be less predictable, one guy called cause he said he was on tilt.

Thanks for your opinions, and sorry im so longwinded

Don't bluff calling stations, bet for value.

Don't fold mid/top pair against calling stations, bet for value.

Don't post this in General Poker, post this in Learning Poker.

Don't post the same thread twice, it pisses off the mods.

(sorry, it's late and I'm cranky)

In home games, IMO, its always gonna be different than other games since you will probably all know each other, and be drinking (I will anyway:p). It depends on what you want to get out of it. Dont give a sht about what the ppl say, if you want to play to win, and a nitty style will win, be nitty. Good words from KAAHK as well. Dont bluff the stations. If they are calling with Ax, and bottom pair, bluffs wont work, dont even go there. 5 handed, TP is often good enough, if someone is calling you down with bottom pair, bet relentlessly with TP. Against these type of players, it sounds like your initial style was working, and you let yourself be influenced (tilted) and you lost money. You have to adjust to your table dynamics, and someone who is calling everything is an ATM just waiting for your monster hand to pay you off. Make sure you wait with him.

thanks for the good advice :) . Well figured they would be wise to my tightness and would fall for a few bluffs, but didn't work out. When im at the poker table though, im in it for the money. they kept trying to make me go in for a 72 bounty but i wasn't having any of it :p .

Don't bluff the calling station, wait till you get a strong hand and bust them.
