A local casino here in town has just opened a poker room here with automated tables, now maybe I'm wrong but with no dealer, no cards and no chips is this really much different then sitting behind my computer screen and playing online ( aside from the fact that other ppl are sitting at the table doing the same thing)........why would you go to a casino to play a tourney or cash games like this when you can do the same thing from home. Personally I go to get the feel of real cards being dealt from a real person with real chips in my hand (perferable a large stack of them lol)

This is just another way for the Casino to squeeze out dealers. They also do this at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. This will certainly cheapen the game. More hands per hour, less mistakes as opposed to live dealers, means more profit for the casino. I have not played these as yet, but have voiced my "displeasure" FWIW.

Personally I like the idea of automated tables for two reasons:

1.) It can ease the transition from online play to live play

2.) Because the system is automated, there is no need for a dealer and thus the overall cost is less for the casino. Therefore smaller stakes can be offered than what is traditional.

I'm of the opinion that 5 years down the line this will be great for the dealers who survive.

Most of the poker enthusiasm these days is from online poker. The speed, easy and lack of mistakes makes it pretty damn enjoyable. But every once in a while we all want to sit down and enjoy the social aspect of the game, new people, laughs, intrigue, drama, etc. These games seem to present us with the best of both worlds.

So I think in 5 years these games will be the low end norm. Big money games might find real dealers, but the fees will increase as these dealers will have shown exceptional skills, and will demand more money for their time.

All I know is its bad enough having to see someone go on a rant about the crappy software and how the bad beats are set ups and its the software, I dont look forward to having to listen to it at a table.

I really am not a fan of this. Sure, you dont feel obligated to tip a dealer but there is something to be said about actually feeling the chips, and the cards. Staring at a screen is something I would do at home. I would never sit down at a table like this at a casino.

LOL

I do think its the way forward for low limits though.

Once the stakes increase.. you want chips, you want a dealer.

personally, if i go to a casino, i want to play with real cards and chips. i guess it does make things easier though, and the transition from online to live is also a good point. i just like to feel of cards and chips better.

Automated Tables

I loved the one I played at on the cruise I took recently. For tournaments, it's great. You can play a lot more hands per blind level and the tournament structure can be somewhat slow instead of needing to go up fast to get rid of players.

Also, I noticed a few players were paying so much attention to their screens, that they forgot there were people watching them. They'd practically tell you what they had in some cases.

I'd prefer a dealer for cash games, but for a tournament, I really like the automated tables.

Really

Thats so weird i have never seen such a thing before. When i read the title i thought you meant the video poker thats at every casino which i hate by the way. But i dont think i would be into that automated version, then again maybe its like playing online but in a casino. Im not sure because again i have never seen what you are talking about. And why dont they have live tables in a casino anyway is it a space issue?

Maybe poker dealers should unionize to fight this. It does seem odd to go to a casino to play karaoke online poker. I'd hate to think that online players play with real chips so badly that this would ever be necessary.

Ive only played live a few times but I like the difference from my norm of playing online, I cant say I like this idea, why drive all the way to the casino to do what I can do at home. Plus if I'm playing online I can muti table rather than be stuck playing one computerised game.

I played on a table like this - PokerPro on a cruise. Let me tell you - it sucks. The interface is terrible as the "touch screen" doesn't even really work and you have you use your card to punch in your desired move. You do get in more hands, but people play more "stupid" it seems (good or bad thing) and the rake looked higher.

We should all just bring a laptop to the casinos and sit around and play online. Its about the same thing. I don't get to play live much, but when I do, real cards and dealers please!

I went to Anderson Indiana to visit friends and we went to the casino there. They had automated (electronic) dealers for blackjack but they still hired a girl that instead of dealing, stood there and clapped her hands for you when you won and told you nice hand.It seemed really goofy to me to hire a dealer and not let them deal.I didnt play
Anyways I would never play poker at one of these tables. When I go to play live I want the real thing!

The only reason to bother going to the casino is for the up close and personal feel of the game that you can't get online, when you take an aspect of that away, it cheapens the experience

That is nuts! I have to agree with u there mersocal I dont go all the way to the Casinos to play on a cpu. First I've heard of that, but I havent gotten to make it to Tunica since before the lay off. I hope they dont start that at Gold Strike.

The auto tables are able to deal out a lot more hands and have a time limit. Also theres the bonus of no controversial decisions by a floorperson who doesnt know poker. However, if you're going to the casino you obviously dont mind the negatives of live play so you want real live play. They used to have a Pokerpro table at Hard Rock Tampa but it was removed.

They have the same thing here in Hull Quebec and personally the only reason I like it is cuz I get my money whenever I feel the need to leave the table.

Btw some of the beats I've witnessed on those things just can't seriously happen as often as they happen.
