:hello: Hello all -

Am new to this site, but not poker.... Just stumbled accross it - and still kinda finding my way around - Looks good so far...

Anyway, reason I'm posting, is that today I was playing in the Sunday TEC MTT 980 players on UB (which I hate, but won a seat earlier in the week - so what the hell) - Anywho, 1st hand - I'm on the button, and after 3 limpers, it comes to me - Hole cards are As Ks - Blinds have just started - so.... what? $10? $20? - I don't recall (did I mention I hate UB? LOL) So, I hit the "pot" button - So maybe $80?? Seems more now that I think about it - Maybe $180 - Whatever it was, it was "healthy" - so it goes around - fold - fold - then "all in".... Hmmmm - What to do? 1st hand on MTT - HEADS UP....

What do you think the "right" play is here???

I should add, that I've been playing for about 6 years now - but not much online (online is rigged, unless *I* win LOL :D) - Kidding (well Kinda) - I prefer B&M play but I digress -

Can someone give me the preflop odds heads up - and if this is a good or "bad" call?

I'd like to post this and see what answers come - then comment later - BUT am short on time - So will go ahead and add my .02 cents...

I called - 1500 all-in.... Me AK suited him 22...

I caught the ace on the flop - and the rest were blanks..

Point is, this "guy" (aka "the_natural" on UB) - proceeded to rant and cry and whine from the rail about what a sh!tty call that was - as well as my "poor play" - and what rank amatuer I was etc etc etc - Blah blah blah - He then proceeded to follow me table to table - Until I made 1st place LOL - after about 2 hours - I guess he got bored and finally went away...

Anyway, I had JUST read a post on this site about MTT - and some "guidelines" - Don't recall the author at the moment - and thought it was really Poker 101 guidelines kind of stuff - but pretty good basic advice ... Point is, another post in that thread also addressed "bad beats" and that maybe YOU (err ME) was really at fault for playing a "bad hand"... I've debated EV and pot odds - and done the math (in my estimation) - and see this ALL the friggin time on "TV" - It's your typical coin toss race - He's leading roughly 60% vs. 40% preflop (right?) - Putting aside the fact that it was WAY early in the tourny - I've been now thinking if that was a "bad call" on my part? - And was this guys whining justified? -

As said, I usually play B&M's - and rarely online.... But this guy
claimed to be a 10 year veteran, and "made his living" off of internet gambling - The fact that it was a TEC ($0) and his incessent crying and whining - leads me to believe he's really not such a pro to get so upset over what I think is a "calculated call" - But maybe I'm wrong?

Should I have laid down after he came over the top?

Cheers,

Kal

Not the worst call i've ever seen as you're only in big trouble to 2 hands. As its the early stages of a mtt i'm not sure i'd have made it but then again i'm not sure i wouldn't!
To be honest its his own fault for putting his tourney life on the line when he's a big dog to any pair and even behind some suited connectors i think(10/J etc?)
Actually in the early stages of these things people go all in with any old crap so well played mate.

The bottom line is you invested your money and have the right to play the cards as you see fit. Whether I would have called is up in the air but probably so. I was playing a 45 seat SNG on Stars last week and had 99 in the BB. UTG raised 4xBB, and there was one other caller so I figured I splash around with the 9s. Flop came AK9 and I took 2 players out, one had AK the other KQ. Both accused me of making a bad call and really got pissed, so what...

AKs is actually favourite over 22 (albeit only very slightly - 49.8% to 49.6%!). As Jace said, he's the one that's at fault - if he's called he's in trouble so why risk whole stack for small pot - that doesn't make sense? As a internet poker pro, he should know that people will call all-ins with anything first hand. As to whether i'd have called, as it was a freeroll the answer is probably yes (you could easily be up against A3 or KJ), and if i'd have paid to enter probably not.

As a sidenote, www.cardplayer.com has an odds calculator in case you want to compare hands and see how they fare against each other. I don't really have anything to add to the discussion as anything I would have said is already covered. :)

As I have seen this played out before you are almost even to win against 2 2 I think I saw something like Rob said 49 to 50% to take this pot, I think I would run this race against the 22, I would have called first hand and told him 10 YEAR VETERAN HA!!! MAKING A LIVING ONLINE GAMBLING HA!! PLAYING IN A FREEROLL LMFAO

not yellin at y'all just what I would have said to him

Edit: I'm sure there are a few that make some decent money playing freerolls but to make a living in them. That's rough LOL

I say good call, in fact I did the same yesterday at our CC Titan freeroll.
I was on the button, raised preflop with AK, not a ton but enough to make it interesting, then a limper went over the top all-in. I called him (how often do you get big slick first hand anyway right?) He turns over 99 and I catch an Ace on the flop (I think it was an Ace anyway) anyhow he didn't complain but I say it was a good call.....

Oh, and the first rule of self-evaluation - don't listen to what idiots have to say about you.

Report the guy for harassment btw. :)

In my oh-so-humble-opinion, ;) what was that guy thinking pushing all-in with a pair of 2s??? If I were him, I would have folded that in a heart beat after your pre-flop raise. At most, I would have just called, certainly not pushed all-in. Obviously the guy's an idiot if afterward he continued to follow you around and berate you. I don't see anything wrong with the way you played the hand.

Thanks all -

Was pleasantly surprised to see some very "objective" replies here to my thoughts... I'm impressed...:)

Thanks for the odds - I wasn't 100% sure at that moment, but figured suited, I was over 40% and really only had 2 other hand to worry about... AKs is actually favourite over 22 (albeit only very slightly - 49.8% to 49.6%!)

I pride myself on semi-solid play and good laydowns as well as good calls (easier to do in B&Ms) but this guy got under my skin as already noted - BUT - I always analise my hands afterwords - and agree that if this were a high $ MTT - I probably would have folded...

Also, I was thinking at the time (and agree with a previous poster) what was this "pro" thinking pushing all-in with 2/2???? - A myriad of hand could beat him (or have him dominated out of the gate) - I was just doing a sanity check of sorts...

Despite his belittling remarks, I could see him move table to table with me - and actually forced me to play BETTER LOL - I should add that the rest of the table that was pretty quiet, but after about 30 minutes started ganging up on him as well - So - I think it was an "OK" call...

I slept fine last night LOL

:)

Thanks again for the welcome, the sound advice and replies -

Cheers,

KAL
