AsKs vs 22 - MTT - 1st hand.... Thoughts?
Hello all -
Am new to this site, but not poker.... Just stumbled accross it - and still kinda finding my way around - Looks good so far...
Anyway, reason I'm posting, is that today I was playing in the Sunday TEC MTT 980 players on UB (which I hate, but won a seat earlier in the week - so what the hell) - Anywho, 1st hand - I'm on the button, and after 3 limpers, it comes to me - Hole cards are As Ks - Blinds have just started - so.... what? $10? $20? - I don't recall (did I mention I hate UB? LOL) So, I hit the "pot" button - So maybe $80?? Seems more now that I think about it - Maybe $180 - Whatever it was, it was "healthy" - so it goes around - fold - fold - then "all in".... Hmmmm - What to do? 1st hand on MTT - HEADS UP....
What do you think the "right" play is here???
I should add, that I've been playing for about 6 years now - but not much online (online is rigged, unless *I* win LOL ) - Kidding (well Kinda) - I prefer B&M play but I digress -
Can someone give me the preflop odds
heads up - and if this is a good or "bad" call?
I'd like to post this and see what answers come - then comment later - BUT am short on time - So will go ahead and add my .02 cents...
I called - 1500 all-in.... Me AK suited him 22...
I caught the ace on the flop - and the rest were blanks..
Point is, this "guy" (aka "the_natural" on UB) - proceeded to rant and cry and whine from the rail about what a sh!tty call that was - as well as my "poor play" - and what rank amatuer I was etc etc etc - Blah blah blah - He then proceeded to follow me table to table - Until I made 1st place LOL - after about 2 hours - I guess he got bored and finally went away...
Anyway, I had JUST read a post on this site about MTT - and some "guidelines" - Don't recall the author at the moment - and thought it was really Poker 101 guidelines kind of stuff - but pretty good basic advice ... Point is, another post in that thread also addressed "bad beats" and that maybe YOU (err ME) was really at fault for playing a "bad hand"... I've debated EV and pot odds
- and done the math (in my estimation) - and see this ALL the friggin time on "TV" - It's your typical coin toss race - He's leading roughly 60% vs. 40% preflop (right?) - Putting aside the fact that it was WAY early in the tourny - I've been now thinking if that was a "bad call" on my part? - And was this guys whining justified? -
As said, I usually play B&M's - and rarely online.... But this guy
claimed to be a 10 year veteran, and "made his living" off of internet gambling - The fact that it was a TEC ($0) and his incessent crying and whining - leads me to believe he's really not such a pro to get so upset over what I think is a "calculated call" - But maybe I'm wrong?
Should I have laid down after he came over the top?
