I came up with this idea recently, Im bored of working in my industry.

I'm not likely to get very rich playing poker without winning a major tournament.

Sales/marketing is definately like poker in my oppinion, if you go into any kind of business where you can make your own money, like in poker.
You can develop skills rather than watching poker tutorials watch world class businessmen giving presentations develop your own CV keep working improving your sales skills.

Go into one job get good there start at intermediate level call centre/sales,

(you can ALWAYS exagerate you CV)
as long as you have two references you can say what you like on your CV... just make sure you learn everything you need too to back this up...

once you get good at the stake your playing at... this could be outbound telesales.
You move up, you apply for better jobs, you keep working hard to improve your skills so you can compete at that level...

and before you know it your on a 30k a year salary with commission on top of that...

and if you continue to keep learning and cutting leaks by not wasting money like in poker... You bankroll continues to grow...

I honestly believe you can earn the same amount of money in the game of life. with no risk of losing anything... And it can be enjoyable.

If you continue to improve your skills and bankroll the next thing you can be looking at, is opening your own company, getting investors or sponsors (as you can in poker) backers and sponsors,

and your well on your way to having 100K in the bank and earning 4k a month NET or more... this apply's to everyone not just the 10% of poker players that become great at the game

strongly disagree, sales and marketing av salaries arent that high, and the infrastructure is super bottom heavy. and there is huge variance in everything not just in poker.

Also this, right out the gate you are suggesting to lie? I guess you are comparing this to a bluff in poker, only difference being you bluff in poker and get cought you can still play the next hand. You get cought lieing in a career when it comes to credentials etc, good luck finding the next career to attempt. And if you think employers don't inquire to other places you have worked regardless of if you have them down as a reference or not, IMO if I was hireing someone I would be more inclined to contact the companies they didn't give a reference for, as no one is going to provide a contact who will likely give a bad reference.

If I read duggs correctly because sales positions are looked at to have such a high earning potential, lots of people look towards it as a career. Yes lots of people could do very well but no different than poker you will still have the smaller % of people who are at the top of the leaderboard when it comes to sales. Like poker experience is a key aspect in sales not just because you know what your doing, but for sales its because people know who you are and trust you and word of mouth spreads the good name and in 99% of situations I'm sure the high end sales positions are people moving from place to place, like high end poker players that would be crushing on many sites.

In general terms you could apply what it takes to be a great poker player in any job, or career however the motivation is only going to exist if you know eventually "you will move up the stakes", sales definitely does not have any such guarentee (i know poker has no guarentee either but it does reward the work and study put into the game, unlike some careers where it depends on the industry and company etc).

Just my thoughts and an LOL especially considering how not even half way through your post you indicate you can ALWAYS lie (exagerate) on your cv? You could always try bluffing with 27 as well but you will more than likely get cought and lose your BR.

Edit: Also, I hope this isn't going to be another thread that you create and then never come back to comment as I have seen a number of those and IMO its very frustrating for anyone who takes the time to read your post and make a comment. Just thought I would point that out, not to be an ass I have just seen some of your threads like this.

Lol Some very good point's

Firstly no I am not saying to lie but to exagerate your experience sell yourself and invest time to back up what you can be good at - basically believe in yourself sell your potential. Even if that means bringing forward skills prematurely.

At the end of the day our governments are cheating and lying to us and we are losing out on what we should rightly have, so I dont see the harm in over selling ourselves to get out of life what we should be entitled too.
This sounds terrible lol. and is not the reason for my motivation but its true in theory.

As for the not coming back to posts yeah Im guilty of that I usually lose track of whats current topic and a few days later I agree im guilty of not revisiting :)

I agree poker offers fantastic gains for good players and hard work but it can also ruin alot of aspiring players lives and gets a hold of alot of players - only a small percentage of online grinders are making 3k profit a month or more.
in effect people can end up missing out on alot of other opportunitys where they could of invested time into business instead of poker -

I still must say Theirs no reason you cant go onto develop business sales skills and earn alot of money in doing so. But you do have to choose the right field for potential I would otherwie agree with you unless your on an uncapped earning potential their is no comparison

ok lets not blame the government :) because im opening a can of worms. but lets be honest all is not right economically.

made the grade.

Isn't that a bit arrogant?

I play 50nl & 100NL on pokerstars which is a strong field to do well in.
In addition I have completed bankroll challenges on other sites such as 888 Titan.

I also play a range of tournaments ranging from micro to some of the toughest online tournaments $215's etc.

Its not a question of not being good enough

Good post.

And if you want a career in sales, I hope that you believe in the product you're selling.

I did actually come back to reply. if you mean regarding your post.
whats not right economically'

''Subject to my own oppinion''

I dont believe the amount of debt we are in as a world, or the US, UN,UK is legitimate.

I dont feel inflation is fair or the amount of NET profit we make from continued inflation and growth within high demand industry and globally needed resources is either accurate, or either is it inevitable to adapt the changes and measures needed to sustain a revenue and a consistant growth without sustaining more debts within the richest nations.

I believe this is due to greed and dishonesty over figures and partly due to undisclosed projects such as research and top secret affairs which cost trillions world wide that come from a globally funded tax and trade inputs.
I addition general bad management of accounts, figures for reasons i wont go into because its only conspiracy but if you do the math and weigh up all the pros and cons its probable that all the potential evidence, conspiracy world wide is not all fake.

I think you can get similar success using poker strategies and transferring that over to real life. You have to have a plan, you have to know when to be aggressive and when to slow down, and you have to know when to stick around or leave (hold em or fold em). It's usually those go-getters and those ambitious people that really get to the top of the leader board. They are not afraid to go after what they want and take many risks(some that potentially end up as failures). If you keep at it though, law of probability states that sooner or later, you will get what you want. I'm just covering the basics, but if you are smart about your tactics, did your research, and keep pushing forward, you should get to wherever you want to be.

By definition inflation doesn't cause profits, I'm at a loss as to why you think govt debt is unreasonable currently

100% agree, its down to the person the mindset believing in yourself and being willing to put the groundwork in probability would indicate someone will give you a chance or you will become good enough from practice.
- such as we are all doing here on CC for poker.
Like for me I wasn't happy working in a call centre on a basic wage. as a teenager. So I went out and applied for jobs with good commision earning potential I wasn't great but I knew If I want to be comfortable Im gonna have to become good at something that offers me uncapped earning.

correct, inflation in measurement to pound per earnings makes our lives tougher due to the slower rate of wage rises. By defination it doesn't cause more profit.

there is alot of information to suggest the amount we can generate, save and sustain - given the amount of financial experts and data/information available,

In a nutshell debt is one way of controlling masses, war is another. its another way of increasing loans and claiming were in worse debt than we are.

The great thing about sales is that there's no ceiling on your income. The bad thing about sales is that there's also no floor, especially if you work on straight commission only like real estate agents do.

In real estate sales you have probably 20% of the agents selling 80% of the properties, it's very lucrative if you break into that 20% but it takes a long time for most people. When I was in the business the average real estate agent in North America did 3 deals and made $8000 per year. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same in poker, in any large group of players you probably have a very small minority that make bank, a somewhat larger group that breaks even once in a while and maybe sees a small BR increase, and the last 80% spew money like broken ATM's and blame the software or the other players the whole time.

In poker, sales, life, anything else, your success depends on how much dedication and effort you put into seriously improving.

a little bit, you make statements that have no basis or directly contradict economic forces

You lose 1.5 for every 9 hands, but you aren't going to win anything when you raise, it's a terrible idea
