Spent a lot of time this weekend playing hi/lo 7 stud (stud/8) at pokerstars and Pokershare. I was getting pounded in hold'em as nothing I played didn't get rivered. Just wondering if anyone else takes a break from hold'em and plays something different. As far as I could tell, many folks had no idea of strategy in this game so it was a good way to earn back what I lost at the hold'em tables. Heven't tried a SNG or tourney with this game yet, for now I'm playing the .25/.50 rings. I've been reading the stuff Dorkus wrote on Omaha and that game is surely in my future as well...

Dave im currently thinking of ways to expand my game and omaha is one of the games im about to take a stab at learning. Ive played some ring 7stud games and never had much success at them. But for the time being i have a lot more to learn about holdem.

Instead of making the jump to Omaha, stud/8 is probably the best way to get comfortable with hi/lo split pot games. Can't believe how many times over the weekend that there was no qualifying low hand. I don't think people pay attention that it must be an "8" or lower low hand to qualify. The 4 cards dealt to start in Omaha still intimidates me and I'm going to stay with stud/8 for a while...

Dave, maybe this could be another "project" for sometime down the road - some kind of HORSE series. I've never really played anything but hold-em, but it would be fun to give others a go "on site".

That's you're first mistake is having 'Dook as coach...

Normally I'd agree, but this was after he'd left and said "boat over boat happens surprisingly often in stud8". ;)

i actually like stud/8 more then regular stud, as i always seem to get crappy hands. i think i actually play it for the same reason, just to wind down from the mind drain of playing nonstop hold 'em. like it more the omaha/8, but that's just me. it's a nice relaxing game, and it's easy to tell when you have the nut low hand, at least for me
