i play poker cause i believe its going to make me rich . ive been playing for like 3 years and i have gotten pretty good. Im not rich yet but i plan on getting there. Ive made a thousand here and a thousand there(mostly tourney wins) and made the withdrawal . rich to me would be making 100k profit. so i dont mean rich rich i just mean "made some noticeable money"
after trying and trying and trying im still not there yet and sometimes i feel as though the dream will dissapear due to not making it where i wanna be.ive heard so many stories of guys who depostied say 50 or 100 dollars and turned it into millions ..bla bla bla.... QUESTION: who are these guys and how did they do it. do u have to start off at 1000 deposit? play in certain limits? what the heck is the winning recipe. anyone ? any information on this ? thanks in advance. Do u actually know someone who started small and made it big.? im not talking about deposited big and made big money. im talking about started small and made it big. really big... and im not talking about winning the sunday million either, mostly about cash games.

i got like 5 close friends .they are all grinders.they spend hours every day in casinos online etc etc.and they r not bad players i assure u. none of them have gone busto but none of them are driving a ferrari yet either. Do super consistent and profitable players even exist? and please dont tell me u havent ever asked urself this question.

Many of the guys who profited huge from poker started around 2003-2007, at the height of the online poker boom, when regulations were lax and fish were aplenty. (I regrettably missed that boat) I suppose Tom Dwan would be the poster child for the "online poker player who started out small, and reached the top". There are many other well-known names who followed a similar kind of trajectory, e.g. Phil Galfond, Isaac Haxton, Andrew Robl, Viktor Blom... (just to throw out a few, in case you're interested in looking into their stories).

I don't think there's a straightforward winning recipe. You need to have the basic talent, put in incredible hours, and become an expert at at least one format of the game. And most people simply won't make it.

Personally, I treat poker as an enjoyable past time that, unlike other games, incrementally earns me money in the course of playing. I have no expectations of striking it rich, though.

It's still possible to hit it big, it's just harder now because of the fact that there are less fish playing and more regs at the tables. Everyone dreams of getting rich off playing poker, but the problem is that the grind becomes tougher because of the lack of fish and the competition has increased steadily since Black Friday. Good luck on the tables.

I too have these aspirations. There is a recipe to win. 1000's know it and make it their living.

I currently am a 8 tabling the micros. I make small profits (still improving). But i intend to climb. If i can 8 table, 5 days a week, for 6 hours (approx 5000 hands per day, 1.2mill a year) and have a realistic (although very good) long term win rate of 2bb/100 - My yearly salary would be:

2nl = $480
5nl = $1,200
10nl = $2,400
25nl = $6,000
50nl = $12,000
100nl = $24,000
200nl = $48,000
400nl = $96,000
600nl = $144,000
1000nl = $240,000
2000nl = $480,000
5000nl = $1,200,000

So if i can make it to 400nl i will be incredibly proud of myself.

I will do it, or die trying!

lol lads, those figures aren't for BRM. That's what you'd earn playing 1,200,000 hands with a win rate of 2bb/100 for the year.

My BRM is 30 buy-ins minimum.

I think you can prepare for larger winrates than that at the micros, assuming you will play 100NL+ profitably.

You are probably operating on old information - the "market" is not what it used to be. It would be similar if you just read a book printed in the 80's about getting rich investing in real estate and decided to do that in 2010. Not that that it can't be done, but it is much harder than once upon a time.
Post Black Friday effect includes taking countless fish away from the tables - the main source of your income. Another factor that differentiates Post Black Friday era and Moneymaker Effect era is the available information in which Joe Regular can improve his game (books, videos, websites, podcasts, etc). The majority of ALL of these did not exist in 2004.
So again, not that it cannot be done (I'm taking my shot) - but realize there are still many stories out there (only a few years old) that are now irrelevant to today's "investment" climate.

I am currently a casual player for fun. I play live as often as I can, but living in Texas it is not easy. We have our home games that are fun, but not much money. I dream of some day becoming a regular profitable poker player at the casinos. I have a dream too.

Yes I want to win but I don't ever see myself raising to the top. For me, poker is a hobby that pays for itself.

It's getting harder the fields are bigger and the overall skill level has evened out. It would take a lot of dedication to start from the bottom and become rich now avdays

In order to crush online and become the new Sauce one needs to work on his game in some sick way. I'm quite sure those still making money in high stakes games work on their game and their opponents like they are studying for any serious university test. It takes some sick work to be the top 1%. Game theory, mathematics , sick studying of the opponents, etc. hours of serious work. I'm only guessing but it's everywhere like that when it comes to the top level of play in any discipline or game. I'm also seriously suspecting top level players might be getting help from mathematicians or computer programmers who help them on optimizing their game. Just a speculation but where there's a lot of money that can be made there will also be a lot of interest on getting an edge in order to make that money.

I will agree with this and I will agree I'll never get rich off it. It's just something to do that gives me a legal buzz.
