I'm about to read Doyle Brunson's "Super System I" and it's far bigger than the other two books I've finished (Mike Caro's "Book of Poker tells" and Phil Hellmuth's "Play Poker Like The Pros"). Is there any advice you want to share or anything to keep in mind before I start reading this magnum opus?

I would recommend taking notes. Although sometimes it can get a little lengthy taking notes, I always find myself going back to them. If you can sum some hints up together on one page. Take the page and scan it to your computer. Then have the tips up on the screen while you play it can help your play!

Does anyone else use sheets up on another page while they play, just curious. I usually have a pots odd page up while I play for a little help.

I was thinking of using a highlighter and post it notes for bookmarks for certain parts that I can turn to later for reference or review.

very good idea
i`ve read and reread Supersystem 2 but not the SS #1 yet
either way when i get to a part that i find critical, i highlight it - not just so i can refer later but it also makes you remember that info better when you see it like that
i used like 3 hilighters on SS2 :p - half the book is multicolored with em

good luck - if the first is anything like the second, you`ll really like it

SS2 is the same book with added stuff in it if i'm not mistaken.

First of all, it is slightly out dated, and written like someone would talk...so its actually a bit hard to follow sometimes.. a bit choppy. I've had to re-read some sections for clarification. The hold'em section of SS is by far the most intence ... there is no omaha section unfortunately. Its a good read though. Hold'em for advanced players is by far a BETTER book for limit hold'em than Super System, but IMO for NL cash games, SS is the best...

Anyhow, gl w/ it.

My advice? Do not read this like a book.
Read a bit, then play some with this new knowledge, apply apply, apply.
Then read a little more and play some more, apply, apply apply.
Then read a little more and well you get the picture.

My most important advice?
1. Find a nice fireplace
2. Place "Play poker like the pros" in Fireplace.
3. Douse with lighter fluid.
4. Strike match.
5. Realize you are now better off. :D
