I believe is bound to happen as soon as congress allows some companies like pokerstars in the USA. How big will the increase in players would be? Idk, but I can imagine another boom happening. What do you guys think, and how long before it happens?

I suspect not

A new poker boom doesn't seem likely. We can tell from the New Jersey, Delaware, and Nevada experiments that there is not enough tax money generated to get the congresses attention. That leaves pressure from constituents. Unlikely as poker players tend to be apathetic.

So, how can a new poker boom happen? The most likely situation would be that California regulates online poker, causing a localized boom. Then, some other states may want to join in a compact of some sorts. Even in this case, it's unlikely that states participation would be wide spread.

I remember the first Poker Boom. It was about 10 years ago. Hardly it will be repeated.

What if a federal bill is introduced and all poker sites are allowed in the states at once. I think pokerstars is getting ready for this for a while now...

I think that it will happen in next years, if such big rooms as PS will do a litle policy to make it legal, and also thay (rooms) need help from any players from USA.

I don't think there will be another boom as big as the first but if it was legal in usa. I would expect to see a semi-boom It also depends if the tv networks played it more like a real sport.

Changes in regulation might cause a minor spike in poker popularity but there will not be a Moneymaker-like boom again!

I don't see what would trigger a boom. Not like the "Moneymaker Effect" did. If they legalize online gaming there will be a bit of an online boom, but nothing like 10-12 years ago.

After Moneymaker won the Main Event, casinos couldn't open poker rooms fast enough. The last couple years, they've been closing rooms just as fast.

Something would have to truly spark the public interest.

Almost exactly the same thing happened in fly fishing. The "trigger" there was the movie "A River Runs Through It." After that movie, people flocked to fly shops and fishing clubs.

Exactly, tennis and golf experienced similar explosions. Like those sports, and fly fishing, poker now is larger than before the boom, but nowhere near the 2004-2008 peak. BTW, one could make the argument that poker was in decline before so-called Black Friday. Consider all of the "Where are the fish" and "Everyone's solid" threads, back in the day.

Cheers!

If poker were fully legalized nationwide here in the U.S. and there was a poker boom, it would be nothing like the original poker boom when the popularity of poker skyrocketed and players all over the world seemed to start playing online poker all at once. In fact, I won't say if, but when, because I'm trying to remain positive. When nationwide poker legislation is passed, I don't think that we, here in the U.S., would be the ones to notice it.

Think about what happened to the poker world on Black Friday. The "big three" poker sites were pushed out of the U.S. market. To us here in the U.S., it may have been devastating. But to the rest of the international poker world, life kept right on going. We've been lamenting the loss of Stars and Tilt, but the rest of the world has continued playing on them as if Black Friday never happened. So the reintroduction of PokerStars and Full Tilt to the U.S. market is not going to generate a tidal wave of new international players. And for the most part, U.S. players have continued on making due with whatever sites have been available to us, the whole while wishing we could play on Stars and Tilt again. We're not likely to see an rush of international players eager to join BOL or ACR. We may see a few new American players among those that have been wary of online poker after seeing what happened on Black Friday, but probably not enough to be considered a boom. So we're not likely to see a big boom here in America. But the rest of the world that has been able to continue playing on Full Tilt and PorkerStars over the last few years will likely notice a large influx of American players returning to them. Even then, and even with the U.S. being such a large market, when compared to the rest of the world, I don't know if it will be enough to be considered a boom from their perspective.
