I have always played better in tournaments than cash games vis a vis online play. And all time (5 yrs total--non consecutively) I've probably made over 200$ in tournaments and I'm a winning player there. But I always gravitate towards the cash games. I get so bored, waiting for that one afternoon slot in the evening, or prepping mentally, and even just the grind of tournaments. But it seems like everytime I buy in I win (cash), maybe 1 outta 6 or 5 but I usually do this randomly like maybe only twice a month.

With cash games however, I go straight to them (4tbls usually). Grind 2 -4 hours 6max, and I barely break even. Maybe sometimes double up (.02/.05) but its so depressing. All time I've lost over 800$ in cash games in 5 years. I've never just played one type for an entire month so i can't really compare them. Should I stop playing ring tables entirely?

You're clearly doing something right in tournaments and breaking even in cash games is not a bad starting position. Maybe read up specifically about the differences in tourney vs cash game concepts. Then also try to identify specific leaks that you can work on. If you enjoy the game don't quit, but find out what your problems are and improve your game. It's going to be a lot of work though. Good luck!

Cash and tourneys play very very different.

Its very likely you are doing stuff wrong in cash.

I suggest getting UpswingPoker and going through their cash content.

you probably playing both tournaments and cash tables the exact same way. In reality they are very different. My suggestion is watch how some people play cash tables. The fact you grinding for around 4 hours is something you need to change. You'll see people leaving cash tables constantly until they find one they winning on.

From my personal experience I find it hard to maintain patience in cash games. There's no definitive end which to me makes me lose patience much faster than I would in a tourney. You could try shorter sessions and see how that works (passing on advice given to me here)

Just stay away from cash, If you insist see if you can beat HU cash.I loathe cash game not HU. Watch Alec Torelli videos that is the amount of thought you need to be a winning cash player. Also hunt for fish or donkeys you can tell by how they play 1-2 hands. If there are not fish or donkeys you need to immediately leave.

There is considerable risk at cash game since there is no socialism value, guarantee value, promotional value, dead money to balance the risk.

In cash, in my opinion, much more difficult than tournaments. I can be mistaken. But maybe you'd better not play cash? There is in fact spin and go or Sit and Go.

i think you have the same problem as me. i won first place in my first cards chat tournament ever played. my problem is i lose in cash games. I play great in huge tournaments but when i play in single table cash games people play like their betting their last dime. its really not as fun.

Actually 6 player sit & goes are mini tournaments, but the issue for some people is that they cannot handle how quickly the blinds come back around to them.

If the 6 player sit & go does not suit your playing style, why not jump onto the 9 player sit & goes, they are basically the same game as any multi player tournament except they are extremely short in duration compared to large tournaments that can last for hours.

Are you playing with the same amount of people at the table in both? It makes a big difference
