One of the players at our home game insists that there is a rule that you can fold or go all in at any time - even out of turn. You can simply usurp the action of others and go all in in any position if it is to your advantage.

I've looked extensively and can't find anything to support this in Robert's or TDA. There are statements that you can go all-in at any time, but the implication is you can do it if it's your turn. The rules about acting in turn are quite specific.

Even after showing him TDA and Robert's Rules, he says I'm wrong and that the local casino allows it.

Please weigh in on this discussion.

Call or visit the local casino and tell them what your friend said. Make sure you and he are speaking of the same game.

I have never been involved in a game anywhere where you could act out of turn. I have never heard of it being allowed anywhere.

Folding out of turn is binding and going allin out of turn is binding if the action hasn't changed (and anyone not retarded will not raise in order to keep the action the same and force him to go allin) so he's kinda right? It's horrible etiquette though and I'm assuming at most casinos if you do it regularly they'll take action in the form of warnings/temp bans if you continue.

only it is illegal just no punishment specified for it. I actually did this in a wsop event once though last hand of the level I'm in the CO I get a trash hand I know I'm gonna fold so I just fold out of turn go on break. I get back and a guy walks over and lets me know I got a warning for folding out of turn and doing it again may result in a penalty.

It is definitely terrible ettiquette to do this. Acting out of turn is normally binding though as others have pointed out. Unless the action changes.

A side not to this is what happens if some one acts out of turn but puts in a call or a small raise. But I still get to act before them. I always raise when this happens and in the home games they either call my raise or fold the extra bet away. However at the casino they let the guy take his bet back when i did this. I guess the casino is correct but it seems like he should have lost that money.

In every big MTT ive played this year in ireland, folding out of turn, mucking out of turn, or going all in out of turn had penalties. First offence enforced by the dealer, miss the next 2 hands, second offence enforced by the floor, miss an orbit.

Ive seen it enforced pretty strictly.

To do this by mistake ,normally is tolarated once or twice at a casino. but they do let the bets be returned or raised by the who act before you. I've actually used this in some by-in tourneys at the local poker clubs in a bluff atttempt to make someone think u have a big hand . Usually it worked . wouldnt suggest you do it at a casino thou. It is very poor poker etiquette . In a home game I'd allow it once but no more ! whats the use of playing if your not going to play right. In those tourneys were I tried this tactic ,I really hadnt been playing very long.

Sounds to me like this player you're talking about has no respect for anyone else. I think I would stop inviting him to my home game! Until he knew the meaning of(poker etiquette).

no, its against the rules and he can face a penalty, up to and including disqualification from the game.
in a home game, then its up to you guys what to do with him.

of course he 'can go all in any time even out of turn'. he can also run a red light and fire a shot gun in a crowded high street. there will be consequences tho.

Play: Bets & Raises
29. Verbal Declarations / Acting in Turn
Verbal declarations in turn are binding. Players are required to act in turn. Action out of turn will be binding if the action to that player has not changed. A check, call or fold is not considered action changing.

Your 'friend' is just one of the guys who are fondly remembered at my home game with an occasional toast but no longer invited. Sometimes a person's immaturity and need to focus attention on themselves is just a bit too childish. If its that big of a distraction, forget to call him for a few upcoming games & he'll get the idea.:stupid:

Acting out of turn is considered bad poker etiquette and as someone else said, it is highly frowned upon. I don't think it is considered against the rules, unless specifically stated, which may be the case in tournaments where the penalties may vary from touney to tourney and depending upon the situation.

I would think that the regular players at your home game could come to some agreement as to what the rules are going to be. Obviously, assessing penalties like having someone sit out for a round doesn't work in a cash game, because blinds and antes aren't collected from a player that is away from the table in a cash game. But if one dude refuses to abide by the rules you could penalize him by uninviting him from the game until he chooses to comply. A lot of people have absolutely no sense of humor about their money. But it's about alot more than that to me. This cat is showing a lack of respect not only for the game, but for the players in it as well. That can cause a friendly game to become real unfriendly real quick.

I have never seen all in every hand happen @ a casino.I have seen all in every time online though. Why someone would play like that,I wouldn't know.Other than not respecting the players or game.

I wonder if they would have said something to you if you had stood up before the hand and not looked at your cards? (Technically not being at the table when the hand was dealt)
