I just watched a celebrity poker championship a moment ago(Final table-Heads up)the lady is on the first move, pushed all her chips on front-ALL IN with a pair of 5. A $200,000 price money and a $500,000 for the charity. Though the lady was beaten and came at the 2nd spot. I just want to ask is it a good idea to "All in" with pair of 5:rolleyes:?
or what's your strategy with this?

Absolutely positively YES YES YES!!! but only beause it was heads up play. In shorthanded play, especially heads up, any face card is worth raising up with. A pocket pair (even twos) is far stronger heads up than they would be earlier in the tourney.

I would say yes as well. Heads up like that, with any pair I would push

Yes, heads up you have a very good chance of holding the best.

Heads up ANY pocketpair CAN be a good startinghand to shove..., all depending on blinds and stacksize..., but with no further info i would say..., PUSH. It is a coinflip most of the time and behind only to any higher pocketpair, so push & pray...

Heads up pocket pair is always the better hand Id go all in with any of them I think you have the better odds and chances are the other will fold.

I would say, get them in while you are ahead.

If you don't push, it is very likely that there will be 3 scare cards out there that could have you behind so if you play it slow and don't hit a 5 you won't really know where you are in the pot.

Like most other people said, shove with your pairs HU more often than not.

I also agree that it was a good choice to go all-in with 5 5 mainly because it's heads up.I would have done the same thing.

all in heads up pre flop with any pair is always good, hardly does your opponent have a pair him or herself.

Heads up yes. Short stack in late position yes. Normal stack in early position, no way.

In heads up you can go all-in almost with any two cards. You chances to win almost equal in every hand, exept somebody has AA or KK. Just lucky or unlucky.

yes yes, definately for sure a good idea... would even be a respectable move with deuces...only time its a bad move is when the other has a higher pocket pair lol.

but in heads up play a pocket pair is a better starting hand than AK, so yea push with it, and it puts pressure on your opponent and makes them think.

yes because even if villain 4 bet shoves on us, a pair of 3s is probably ahead

i cannot say if it was a good play without stack sizes, blind level, etc.it could well be a bad play to stack 5-5 HU depending on player reads and metagame. more info is necessary to analyse a hand

the advice in this thread is horrible imo, " I HAZ PEAR, ARRIN"

If this was heads up then it was 100% the correct play. 55 is a great hand in a heads up game. I would bet it every time without fail.

Yeah, just have to take your chances that you aren't going to run into a bigger pair. If you are too conservative heads up, you'll get eaten alive by a quality player.

I don't understand how everybody can see that this is the right move.

All you know is first pays 200k and 500k to charity. Without knowing the stacks and blinds how can you even guess ?

dumb play

People going all in with a low pocket pair, not at the finalable short stacked are idiots. Thats the bottom line, its a ridiculous play only done because online poker is so forgiving to weird donk play
