What are your thoughts on drinking while playing poker? I think it promotes the "wild" image and can be used as an edge. I like to have a few drinks, then start acting drinker than I am. I find it will get calls I normally wouldn't get. That is as long as you don't actually get that drunk. Does anyone else use drinking like this? I'm talking about live play if you couldn't figure that out. What are y'alls thoughts?

Wow, that is a nice strategy, always when I play live games I notice some drunk people, it never occurred to me that they can be faking it to create a false image of him, that's clever! Who knows, maybe I will try it sometime

If I could observe your actions live for myself, I might be able to offer a better analysis. I would be concerned that my performance would be unauthentic, but then again I am not a very convincing actor, I'm afraid. I'm more of a fan of subtle variances in behavior, typically.

I've had a lot of practice. There's free games at three local restaurants in my area, so I'm comfortable playing poker drunk as a skunk honestly. It comes natural to me to get "tipsy" and start cutting up at the table. Nothing unsportsmanlike, Just having fun with whoever is around me. I like to put off a "I'm here to have fun, let's gamble!" Image. Having a few drinks can help that. Opponents are more likely to pay you off, and they will more often, if they like playing with you. I dunno, I've always been big on abusing opponents image of me. You'd be surprised what showing one bluff, than acting like you always play like that even tough your folding 80% of hands works wonders.

It could work for awhile, but at the end of day any good poker player will find out how you play and defeat you. If your playing against casual players I doubt you even need a disguise to win. Don't drink and drive!

If it's a home game with friends, the drinking is a must. But in a serious tournament that lasts hours or online it could cause a disaster. Personal experience :)

LOL. Pretending to be drunk at the poker table. What a great strategy. I guess most people would try and scoop as many chips from someone who is drunk, if they are honest, so turning it into a strategy really opens up the game. This is only going to happen in live poker and so in online, i am sure there are loads of drunk players playing all the time. It seems that way anyway! Drinking and playing poker has the same outcome as drinking and driving. The guy at the wheel, or with the cards in his hands thinks he is invincible and will pull all kinds of stunts to impress.....only to get out at some stage and wish they had kept away from the bottle. I don't touch drink at the tables and would advise against it...unless of course you are playing against me, then drink all you like!

I dont thing its good to drink all alcohol at table. At playground poker when you play cash game the drinks in free. and the lunch too. Its not funny to play with a drunk guy. No fear and you cannot bluff him.

That's about my limit with beers, but if you order liquor, they put so little in there that you can order a bunch to really sell the idea that your drunk. I'm not going to the tables to drink for free, that's what slots are for. The idea is to Play your normal game, but act in such a way that elicits calls. People in low limit live games hate to fold top pair, and being "drunk" helps them justify calls they shouldn't make. I'm not sure about doing this in a tournament, I use it for low limit cash cames.

I like a couple of drinks while playing live.. especially in tournaments over $100 as it calms the nerves a fair bit, it also makes me a lot calmer when iI'm hit with a bad beat

Personally, I do not drink alcohol that much when playing. I also don't mind if others drinking so as long as they are not drunk and being aggressive or drunk and being annoying.

Alcohol and sport are incompatible. Alcohol dulls the mind and makes people stupid.

If you need it, you can drink and also play mind games with playing drunk, but in the end your play and choices count

I'm for anything that makes you have fun while playing as long as it is not at someone else's expense.

If you play for fun or with friends and is willing to play a little bit, you can drink a little during the game. But if you tuned in to a serious game with a good bank - I would not recommend drinking alcohol.
