Does anyone have ADHD and play poker? What benefits or challenges have you had? Do you take meds and if so what kind and do they help? Anything else that you find helps you play with ADHD?

I have been a life long player with some struggles and stopped playing years back. I was recently diagnosed with severe adult ADHD and want to get some help and insight to benefit me getting back into poker. Thanks all.

I think it's better to consult a specialist. The forum is unlikely to give qualified advice.

Any gambling is a great stress load! If there are problems with health, then poker can kill you sooner or later. Link and all-health is more expensive, believe me !!!

Similar situation here, don't play for too long straight as it is obviously harder to maintain focus with ADHD and try to avoid situations with distractions(as everyone should) when playing. My biggest challenge I have run into is getting bored in slow or boring games and playing hands that I shouldn't just because I want to hurry the table along.

Outside of normal poker play make sure to maintain a regular eating schedule if you are given medication such as adderal, ritalin, etc. because these stimulant based medications are appetite suppressants

As I understand it is a neurological behavioral disorder.
Stands for "attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity".
You could say it's a distraction, restlessness and the inability to concentrate on anything.
The phenomenon is most common in children of preschool and school age.
Often ADHD in adults can be confused, for example, emotional disorder.
As a rule, medicines are only vitamins, but also a sedative. Sometimes antidepressants.
Phil Hellmuth for many years suffers from ADHD and has eleven wsop bracelets.
For such people there is a class of drugs like beta-blockers.
This type of medication has its negative side - decompression (if it is normal, it is not very useful), narrowing of the bronchi (especially dangerous for asthmatics), and with prolonged use a fairly high risk of impotence.
But some of them quite dangerous, until the ban in many countries.
Best doping for poker players is just a healthy way of life! Exercise, fresh air, adequate sleep, regular and proper nutrition, perhaps, support in the form of vitamins and dietary Supplements - all this will help you to be on top form for a long time, not only in poker but in many other ways. So I wish you health and success!

Play poker for fun not money. With ADHD it is difficult to concentrate and for poker you need to be able to sit sometimes for an hour or more in just one game.

I haven't been diagnosed officially, but I'm currently on stimulants (Concerta--a long-lasting Ritalin essentially) because my doctor and I suspect I may have it. I haven't taken it long enough to know whether it will provide a long-term benefit. However, so far I find it calms my body and mind; helps me think in a more clear and concise manner; and have better emotional control. With the medication, if I'm not properly hydrated or eat well enough I'm exhausted and end up with terrible headaches. Exercise helps my energy levels and my mental resolve.

Poker provides me a challenge that I haven't found with any other hobby. I need that in order to maintain stability in my life. On that note, it could be dangerous if I rely on it to be my only outlet or source of stimulation. If I don't keep stringent bankroll management in mind, I find that I chase losses or begin to play in a reckless manner. As for the concentration problems...I like playing cash and Sit N Go's so I don't have to sit and pay attention for too long. As for tournaments, I'm still struggling to find the right ones to play, even though I'm determined to get better at tourney play. Regardless, I can't play any poker unless I have music playing in order to block out background noise.

Wow that all sounds a biography of my behavior and habits at the table. I wish you luck with the meds.
