Is there an appropriate time to play an Ace Rag?
Thanks. ScottieDuncan

Generally speaking, I try to stay away from A-Rag for fear of being dominated. With that said, I would say there are definitely times that A-Rag can be played. For instance, in late position, with action folded around to me, I wouldn't have a problem putting in a raise with A-Rag. Some players will happily limp in with it, but quickly fold it to a raise. Others like it enought to call raises and even shove pre-flop with it. The only time I would consider calling a raise with A-Rag is from the blinds, against a late position raise from an aggressive player that I suspect is trying to steal. So that would be a yes.

Playing A rag in position is ok, if you're the aggressor. Try to avoid them vs loose opponents though because they often don't play very well. Vs tight players though, you can open a huge wide range, just be cautious when you do play them though and you get called, if you have weak kickers and you flop top pair because in general..tighter sort of players will have you crushed.

Never play Ace rag out of position and certainly don't play them in 3bet pots.

If you're new to the game, try to avoid them in general, unless you're comfortable post flop.

Yeah to reiterate some of what was said above, I play Ax from time to time in late position, it also helps a little bit if it is suited. For the most part, I bet with it when an ace comes on the flop and if i get called down by more than one person then I will slow down significantly and probably just check/call small bets to get to showdown. It also depends if someone has raised pre flop. Even if i'm in late position and someone opens for 4-5x with one or two callers, i'm almost always folding the ace rag in that situation.

I only play Ace/rag if I'm short stacked, Then I shove. Maybe raise on the button if no callers ahead of me. That's about it.

I got ace ragged from sb's from utg from everywhere, and theworse was that crap was hitting and crippling me all weekend. guess any ace is a good ace. I can see at+ or a2-5 since your kicker can anchor a straight but when folks start shovin or worse calling shoves with a6-9 I just don't get it but I did let it get to me in a game this weekend and said some shit in chat which I felt bad about

Depends on your skill level. In later rounds as the blinds get bigger some will only play an ace. If you put someone on aq or ak you can use it to your adv if your
kicker hits. Also, some players will play mid prs 3 bet and the ace will beat them but obviously you have to be careful.

I usually stay away from A-rag unless in late position and it's suited. Even then, only once in a while. If I have $500 on a $200 table, then I will jump in there sometimes with A-x suited.

The time has to be right with table dynamics, stack sizes, etc.
