What books would you recommend to read to improve your game? I consider myself a player below average player and I want to improve my skills in the game.

I would recommend you practice and online articles. Why? Books are full of theory and you get so bored that you want to kill yourself. It's like a subject in school you hated. No matter how hard you try you get distracted. At least I feel this way. Go on pokerstrategy.com. There are articles with examples and explanation to everyone of your questions. They have a golden rule: Do what we tell you and you will win. After I have read their articles I got better and started getting some cash out of freerolls and cash tables. I tried to read a book and I was disappointed. The author said "I won't tell you what to do, it depends on the situation" In other words he said that he would right more than 500 pages where you won't learn how to act but you would be able to choose. This sounds pretty stupid to me.

Anything by Phil Gordon or Dan Harrington. Harrington especially - he actually has a workbook with his and provides a TON of hand by hand examples and analysis that you can apply theory. He's not just theory.

Another thing that works very well is YouTube. From tips on how to use a particular tool to replays of final tables of major tournaments in full, a lot of content that can help you solve that minimal detail that catches you at a certain point in the game.

Youtube also lets you know more about great players, big decisions, big tournaments, big plays ... Anyway, videos will give you a ton of information. I like a lot.

I heard that "Moorman's book of poker" is great. I will buy it soon on Christmas. There is about 80 hands analysis by Chris Moorman - the best online tournament player

You can read a fantastic book.:D Any reading develops the ability to think. You can register in the PokerSchool that has a good base for learning.

Harrington is good for total beginners, but it's very outdated, especially in the age of youtube. IMO there a ton of online stuff to cover the basics.

My favourite books are the "Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time" serries.

I recommend to look at the training pokerstartere in poker school, they are free and useful for low-limit players and beginners.

Even though they are not books, there are online schools with very good material.

In the poker literature we have:

Harrington, the theory of poker and the mental game of poker

I've recently started reading "Caros Most Profitable Hold 'Em Advice" I haven't gotten too far into it but I can already see my strategy improving, I highly suggest it!

Jared Tendler's two books on the mental side of poker is a good start.
