On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best give yourself a rating on your ability to read other poker players online.

personally i give myself a 7, almost 8 because for some reason I can read people. Can't explain it but today I had a table on "read" lock. If i folded in the midst of a hand I told that person what they had before I folded. If i was ahead in a hand, and 1 time made a big bet on the river and told the guy this on a board of 73AJJ..."A10 huh? tough choice." As I held the nuts with AJ. He didn't call, but made a comment to uncanny how I've been telling everyone their hands everytime I'm involved.

So yea rate yourself again, and tell us why? I think it's a tough thing to master in the online world because you aren't able to see the person you are playing. I guess recognizing patterns is the key? No clue.

I won't rate myself... but thats quite interesting. I wouldn't tell them I knew what they had though. I'd keep it to myself so they didn't start to tighten up. I like everyone to play loose, more money in the pot baby.

Just ran across this one and couldn't keep my hands off it.

I would rate my self about a 7. Sometimes I can see crystal clear what the other people have and sometimes even feel it when someone is slow playing something.

The weird thing to do however is tell them their cards as you get so much respect and many times opponents have just sat out once I told them what they had. Also it is easy to get some info off these guys. Just ask : Which pocket pair and they'll usually answer atleast in low limit games.

I am pretty good at it live...8+, the guys and gals in my league just mutter and shake their heads when i do it...and weekly game is the same...same group plus some others.

online is different with the tremendous amount of donk play...usually later on in tourneys i can put someone on a specific hand cuz they are a good player. i dont tell them tho, rarely, just a mutter to myself and im right and noone around to hear...kinda like the tree in the forest!!

6 maybe:cool:

Sometimes ill honestly answer if they ask what cards I have. Sometimes they dont beleive me even when I do not lie. Like yup "I have AK" they say "no ways! you must have low pockets".... No... No I dont.

It can work to your advantage usually.

best way to read people is to just look at how they played the hand....lets say you are facing a big bet on the river, just look to see what he did PF, on the flop, and on the turn and it will all add up to something....and if it doesnt make sense, hes probably bluffing....

rate myself at around a 7

I've had people try to tell me what I have but be totally wrong, and you know what I do? I act impressed and say something to the effect that they're right.

Then they get confident, and they keep reading me wrong, and I make money. I love it when people think they have iron reads on me and they don't.

Moral: Be careful, even if your opponent's letting you know that your reads are correct.

I really can't rate myself for the fact that I have been in situations that I have read somebody to the T, then I have been in other situations where somebody had me from the start.

Some Don't Believe it, Be Careful

Hi all,
This is interesting, I wouldn't rate myself as there are times i've been completely wrong, I would say most of the time during a tournament online if i've been kept at the same table for a while then yes it's not that hard to read players, but that is purely based on watching their play, it's harder to do with the better players as they can change their play/strategy mid game.
I don't think I would ever tell a person what cards he had even if I was 100% sure about it, there are some people that believe it's absolutely impossible to read another player online and if your not careful they could report you for using cheat software, it would be hard to prove your just reading the player if it came to it, worse case you could lose your account, sounds crazy but i'd say be careful.

Tony:)

Zero being just started at poker and 10 being Negreanu (who just freaks me out on TV, though I'm sure they don't show all the times he's wrong), I'd say 2. I'm actively trying to read hands (that's worth one point) and I can occasionally get it right (there's another).
