Ever feel like the game owns you ? I never take a break even on a downswing. I've been playing online since online poker started. and never took even a short break. Yesterday I just decided to leave it alone. Got my 2 a day points at Carbon shut off the computer and spent the day outdoors with my dogs in the woods. Walked the creek looked at my ponds. Checked out my whole 25 acres. just got away from the world a while. Went out to eat with the wife last night came home kept the pc off except for sending a few emails and checking on some forum stuff. I might start doing this more often. It felt really really good. I know my dogs appreciated it. lol Why in the hell havent I done this before? Cant answer that. But I'll do it more often now.

Yeah should know the right time to get out of poker if it is not working for you anymore ... Those who are successful in making a living out of it won't complain but spending years in hope that things will turn around is not such a good idea in my mind.

You should realize that there are better players than you or it is not working for you despite giving your best shot at it and that maybe life has other plans or you and it is time to move on.

Good luck for the future.:flowers:

BREAK

On line poker is world away from live and most people will not get rich playing on line due to the variance of the options that can be for you or against you. I have come to the conclusion that online poker should be more or less for fun and nothing more. Yes it can make you a slave to the game and breaks are critical to playing online. Their are so many bad beats and other donkey systems online including collusion and other r factors that it makes it makes it very difficult to be a true online pro. I personally have taken many a break.

I try to only play when in the moods and free of personal distractions I also will not play if i am not up to it or am having down swings. I find the best time I do well is when i just let go and have fun. The online game can make you stressed and frustrated and I choose the easier path. The only winners on online are really the owners of the site. I will never ever invest another dime I have plenty of points for tourneys and will play free rolls and If I win grt.

Here is an IE: I was in the 10k yest I had qq vs 99 yup trips hit for the 99
I had AK Diamonds vs qq yup trips hit for the queens. This seems to happen very regular especially were you can have a KK and an ace will river you I also had AA yesterday and got beat by trip kk. I love the game but do it more for fun my live play is were I bank

Days without poker are extremely necessary, online poker can make you forget about "real" life and, unless you are a poker pro, you should never let that happen or you will regret like me.

It has basically become insanity. Doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results.

Going for a walk.

Get 2 points and go for a walk. Nice. A change in perspective. I like it.

I have so much time off poker that I might as well not be called a Poker Player.

When I was playing 8-10 hours a day, I was knacked. Ended up taking it toll on me & the whole family.

I have a good balance now & those long hours spent grinding away, day after day, seems to have thought me stuff that will always stay with me

It is unfortunate that to be any good at poker you have to submerge yourself in the game. I used to take 3 consecutive days off a month but found that even then all I was thinking of was poker. However, after reading this post it is something that I shall start doing again. I know my game goes bad sometimes and is always better after the 3 day break.

Its like having a part time job that takes up all of your available time. Definitely a big time investment for online tourney players with rebuys and late registration it takes a while to even get started.

THE WORLD OF ONLINE POKER Tips

On line poker is world away from live and most people will not get rich playing on line due to the variance of the options that can be for you or against you. I have come to the conclusion that online poker should be more or less for fun and nothing more. Yes it can make you a slave to the game and breaks are critical to playing online. Their are so many bad beats and other donkey systems online including collusion and other r factors that it makes it makes it very difficult to be a true online pro. I personally have taken many a break.

I try to only play when in the mooD and free of personal distractions I also will not play if i am not up to it or am having down swings. I find the best time I do well is when i just let go and have fun. The online game can make you stressed and frustrated and I choose the easier path. The only winners on online are really the owners of the site. I will never ever invest another dime I have plenty of points for tourneys and will play free rolls and If I win grt.

I had AK Diamonds vs qq yup trips hit for the queens. This seems to happen very regular especially were you can have a KK and an ace will river you I also had AA yesterday and got beat by trip kk. I love the game but do it more for fun my live play is were I bank If you are new I would suggest not depositing more than $50.00 and see how you do. Here are some tips

1) play micro stakes and tourneys to start with

2) never play with scared Money

3) when your ona down swing take a break because you will go on tilt

4) ask card chat members for assistance and read about the game

5) Have fun with the game dont let it stress you as soon as you let go a bit and have fun you will do better.

6) If your going to be a serious player study all you can and know that your going to have major down swings that can last for a bit. No matter how goof you are if you dont get the cards it wont matter.

7) Those dream poker nights that we have are an incredible rush but just know enjoy that ride as long as it lasts

8) Try to only play a portion of you Bank Roll until you feel more confidant I usually play between 10-30% of mine and build from their If I loose that I am done for the night If I win I will keep playing,

9) Play free rolls to build br. And remember it is far better to wake up with money in your account than a 0 balance I would not drink when playing unless its a glass of wine or maybe a small drink
:D

Why bother playing poker if you no long enjoy it? It shouldn't feel like a job(even if it is). Maybe if it is such a burden you should step back and think about it?

I tend to play well when I have already done the other things in life. Doing a good job at work, time with the kids and my wife. I have decided to play poker as a hobby but playing seriuosly it with a bankroll, pokersoftware and reading books/forums. Poker should be fun in my opinion. I always remind my self not to dwell in money because it will definitely come in due time and when you are living your life to the fullest. Money is just a tool for happiness, just like your family, friends, poker and other important stuffs.

I think we just all want to take a break but the addiction is somewhat hard to lay down. It's good to get into a routine and just take a long break or a few of them. Poker all the time I know, is not the best nor is it healthy. Get into a routine and you might not become a vampire and might just live longer :)

I would have to say if you feel like a slave to the game it might be time to hang up the gloves. It just sounds like the game is no fun for you anymore and once it stops being fun well you know that it is time to quit.

the game is fun. and im just saying how easy it is to become this way. i dont play all day. never have. im not a casino or action junky not a gambler. this was kind of a suggestion. i just had noticed i was playing more than usual and decided to take a day off. i see so many people who are consumed by this or that and forget that humans need some balance and some nature. it felt good. during this time i was "house bound" a few weeks due to some health reasons and that had alot to do with my mood and attitude. its good to be back on track. poker isnt very high on my priority list. but we all sometimes can feel it tugging at us lol.

Balance is always the key, its easy to get carried away with something you enjoy. Its especially hard when you hit a hot streak then start cooling off and you keep hoping your luck will turn or you start to try and force everything, its good to know when to stand up, before you lose money.

I started playing poker in 2008. At first I was so attracted to the game and make some decent money. But things changed when I consider it a job and the game was getting tougher. I was somewhat isolated from social activities and felt stress all the time. Now I have a regular 9-5 job and only come back to the tables once in a while. I think poker is much more fun if you don't have to sit in front of the computer 5-10 everyday.
