I ran into this guy playing microstakes a couple nights back, he was doing very well, actually we both were. He seemed like a really cool guy, we both had some laughs as we dominated what was clear was a very soft table. So last night I ran into him again, and although we didnt stay at the same table for very long, it was clear we had a mutual respect for one another. So today I was playing at a table, losing quite badly, and he popped in as an observer and asked how I did last night. I told him the truth, terrible, and he told me he cleaned up. I said congrats, yatta yatta. So that was that.

15 minutes later I get a 5 dollar transfer from him.

I know it's only 5 dollars...but for someone who's been up and down like I have, and considering that was actually almost half of my entire bankroll, I was very greatful.

You don't often encounter people like this, at least I don't, and as small of an act as it was, I will not forget it. Now to all of you, have you ever had someone do this, and if so, what is the common courtesy as far as paybacks go. I know he isn't absolutely expecting it, but I imagine throwing him 7-8 bucks if my bankroll will allow in a few days or so would be a good returning gesture. Or is the 5 enough to just pay back?

When I cashed big in a tourney on ft i went around randomly and gave multiple $5 to people who seemed to really need it. Not the beggers though, people who i genuinely wanted to give $5 to play with.

Generally if people "give" you money like this, they dont expect it to be payed back, just keep the money and be happy.

Its all karma, last week I was on another big forum and a random guy from london staked me $55 for a tourney on stars, I was pretty happy about that, it all comes around yo.

Ya I believe in karma for sure, well hopefully I can continue to grind this small roll up, so one day if he does need a helping hand I can return the favor...I managed to grind 2.09 to over 20 the last couple days, but I ended up losing almost half...so that 5 really boosted my spirits, now I can get back to my A game.

Nice!! How'd you do with it? One of my good friends offered to stake me in a $100 tourney and I couldn't let him do it. I'm very confident with my poker skills, but something about using his money just didn't seem right to me. I would feel terrible if I lost it (although that would probably make me play even better).
