Hey Guys,

I wanted to share a story with you that I wrote up on my blog:

Watch Your Language at the Poker Table

It happened to me while I was playing poker in Prague a couple months ago.

I'm positive you'll get a good laugh out of it, but I hope it also reinforces an important lesson we poker players all ought to be aware of re: language at the table.

Enjoy and, as always, I'm happy to get your feedback, comments, etc.

Robbie

LOL yea, a good story. There is a supposedly great casino on the German/Czech border called Kings Casino. Do you know it? I haven't been but it is on the to do list for this year.

Thanks :) Glad you liked it.

Yup - I've heard of it, it's called Kings Casino Rozvadov. Here's their website: http://www.pokerroomkings.com/

On the site, I think you'll find that there's car service available from Prague to Rozvadov Casino direct for like 100 EUR.

While I would've been interested to check the place out, as I've also heard lots of good things and it's a place with lots of action 24/7, it just seemed very out of the way to trek all the way there.... dunno if there's much else to do there besides poker... (but that's not necessarily a bad thing, lol)

Well played Sir, as I am Bi-Lingual I have used that tactic in the past, not at any casino or to do with poker, it's a great feeling when you reveal to them that you understood what they were saying about you.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily call it a "tactic", but I do think poker players ought to try and take any advantage they can during play against their opponents.

Honestly, had it worked out that I had been able to take a lot of money from them, I wouldn't have said anything. But under the circumstances, I think I did the right thing by telling them after the fact.... and the looks on their faces were absolutely priceless!

Totally understandable not to reveal if you got their cash, you never know what crazy guys are around.

Just saw this article get published about the owner of King's Casino... talks quite a bit about the Rozvadov establishment - pretty cool.

Great story. I did chuckle at the end. I note the comments posted on the site this comes from. It was interesting to read someone concerned about your opponents making derogatory remarks about you and you getting offended. My approach would be not to get offended, but turn their disrespect into annihilation of their stacks in a really controlled way. I look forward to much of this when I hit the live stage next year. (He says with great i trepidation of a change of way of life). All will be revealed in time! (If any one is interested!)

:) thanks for the kind words. Well, "annihilate" seems a bit harsh - and they really were a couple of nice guys, who I'd happily be friendly with away from the table, but yes, no matter what, when I play, the goal is to beat my opponents and take their money. I never really worry too much about getting offended by anything, but I was secretly wondering the whole time while at the table if they might've ended up saying something nasty about someone.

Good luck to you at the tables my friend!

That was a perfect ending. Can I say it was a great literary ending even though the story ended with an image? I'm not sure, but it was a perfectly chosen image and I got a real good belly laugh. Just when I thought I had approached an understanding of the genres of literature of the last several centuries, now we have this new one, of the 21st. Kudos.

Thanks for the pleasurable "read."

Haha! Thanks caballojoe; you just gave me a good laugh too :)

Well, for what it's worth, I was an English Linguistics major at university, but I suppose I may have picked up a "literary" thing or two :)
