My brother called this morning. We fly to Vegas on the 28th. Needless to say, we're excited and the wsop is a big part of it. This morning, one of the first things he said was to tell me that he was going to pay to enter us both into Event #54, a $1k NLHE event. With his income, and what I know about his character, I put the odds of him actually doing this at about 80% that he will. If I pumped him up, those odds would be higher. But I'm not sure I shouldn't try and talk him out of it.
That is a lot of coinage for me. Especially since I have been holding up a mortgage (barely) on my own for a few years now. I literally have zero disposable income. The Vegas trip itself? Well bro has sprung several hundred on the airfare for us and we stay with our mother who lives there. I have saved, scratched and clawed about $300 for spending money but I know bro will subsidize that some. To give you an idea of the financial situation, an annual bonus he told me about a couple years ago was half my annual salary. I really don't know how much he makes or if that should even matter in my decision.
We both grew up playing poker. Mostly stud back when we were younger. He hasn't logged millions of hands in the last 6-8 years like I have though so he has yet to learn a lot of the situational intricacies that would help you run deep. Not that I am saying I know I can either. Just saying that Phils Ivey and Helmuth would have a greater chance of running deep than us 2.
One thing I don't want to do is to be a Moriarty. I don't want to bring negative waves on us by telling him our chances to even cash are thin and that he should realize his $2k could easily be lost. The only way I do that is if I decide to refuse his offer. It's either "Hell yes, let's take 1st and 2nd!!!" Or, "No, lets play a $100 satellite and try to get in that way so we don't risk 2k of your money on such long odds."
A bracelet would be sweet though, wouldn't it?
Any advise would be helpful.
