Maybe you will get donked out but this happens everywhere not just freerolls. Personally if I was you I would play them, every hand you play is another learning experience, so why not take these two years to learn, read stratagy articles, try out risky plays find your strengths and weaknesses early.

You have an advantage over us oldies, your brain is still in the stage of taking to things quicker and easier use this to your advatage. There is also play money several members here have sold some for real cash, imagine two years worth, thats a bankroll starter right there.

Your mentality is not meant for poker playing. Please find a new game.

Yesterday in a 3dollar sng I picked up KK my 4th or 5th hand and raised to 300 chips 3 people call flop hits K 6 10 so i raise half my stack 700 two fold 1 guy calls. Know what he had? 23os and he calls needing runner 4 and five to win. He hits and im out. Things like this happen all the time, its poker and when someone on the table berated him for it some one else defended him for his play saying maybe he had a read on me!!!. Incedible he read that his 23 os was the best hand???? The point is these players will get lucky and maybe even win a bit off cash in the short term.

Poker is all about the long term. This is my First year playing online or poker at all and my only goal is to become a solid player and make some form of profit.

There's no such thing as "proper poker". Freerolls are excellent practice for playing against a certain kind of player, imo. If you ever make it deep or to a final table in a freeroll, you will find the better players there, of course. So I say stick with freerolls.

And make sure you finish high school. Read a poker book and do a book report on it or something. Sheesh.

I don't think that freerolls will "ruin your game". Instead, they will ultimatley help you out in the long run when you're playing higher stakes. You have to start SOMEWHERE and large stakes are simply not the place to play have you first experiences. For example, when you play sports, you don't start out playing the NBA... you start out playing recreational ball at the gym. Start small... get bigger.

freerolls will also help your game, trust me.....im also too young to deposit money, but through freerolls i have developed my game some and won real $, i now play in smaller buy in MTTs and will hopefully build up from there.
All in all, yes play the freerolls......all pros, no cons

Do what one kid I know did. Ask your parents to open an account and let you play as them for play money, get a job, give your parents the money to deposit, and then find out real fast that play money and real money players are totally different!!!!

Some good suggestions here. FR's are worth the effort and they do teach you to play against a certain type of player and you will the likes of them at the real money tournaments.
Keep at it. I do like the option to give the folks money and ask them to load it for you. I would have done it for my daughter when she was 16 if she was interested.
SOme of the posts implied the poker playing lead to truancy. Have fun and GL

er, supposed to, but who sticks to rules.........

That depends on the rule, KD.

Example:

About 300 yards down the street from my house is a big intersection where the main road crosses my road. There are traffic lights.

At least once a year, there is a big car smash and somebody gets busted up or killed at that junction. It should be impossible if everyone followed the rule. Go on green, stop on red. It`s not difficult.

But no, there`s always the clown who isn`t paying attention or thinks he knows better.

So, use your own judgement on petty rules maybe, but some rules are made for your protection. Do we want to encourage children to play for real money ? If we do, are we going to set any kind of limit ? If 16 is ok, how about 12 ? 10 ? 8 ?

Yeah. I thought that was what video games were for. Go buy the WSOP video game and practice until you are 18.

I do support underage gambling. My parents wish all I was doing was gambling when I was 16. I can't even remember my last two years of highschool. I think that was my LSD period....but I could be wrong.:D

What should you do? Get your dad to open you an account with $25 and play super low stakes until you get old enough to hit the casino and then give up online poker and move on to reality. If dad won't open you an account, find a friend that has an account and give him $25 cash for a transfer. Be creative...you're 16. You must have a million ways to get things 16 year olds aren't supposed to have.

As for proper poker....I agree with everyone here that playing a freeroll with a buch of crazy shove-addicts won't ruin your game. But I don't think it will help your game grow very much. You'll never see that kind of crazy shoving in a real life tournament or in an online tournament at higher stakes. You may run into that kind of player in real life, but usually it is one guy at your table, and beating one crazy shove addict is totally different from swimming with a table full of them.

And if you want to play "proper poker" as you put it, get some books and read them for cryin out loud. I have to tell you that the youngest players I play with, the guys with the backwards caps who still shave only once a week and live in their parents basement, are the second worst group of live players I see. Most players that are weak on theory at least have years of experience to back them up, but young players are weak on theory and have no experience to draw from.

You can leap ahead years in your game if you do enough reading.

Good luck
