Am I missing something here? 72 off suit is widely regarded as the worst starting hand in Hold Em, or that's what I thought or was lead to believe.

I was bored and playing around with PokerStove, and was putting in some random hands. I put in 72 off suit vs a random hand, and then 23 off suit vs a random hand, and 72 had a higher win percentage.

So am I missing something here? I always thought 72 vs a random hand was worse than 23 because of straight possibilities?

The likely hood of getting a straight is slim.. plus, they share a card together, with the 7 being the higher kicker.

Yes, the 7/2 off suit is still (strategically) the worst hand in poker.

Actually, if you play some of the freerolls on full tilt, you would know that AA is statistically the worst hand(sarcasm)... Lets see here..........7/2 off suit...............ALL IN!!!

7 2 off, is the worst starting hand because, you have the lowest high card that on the flop you can not make a straight or flush. In all other hands you can, on the flop make either a flush or straight, or you have a card higher than 7

Its strategically the worst hand but you have to think about the number of players on each table. The percentages are different if you are playing heads up, six max, nine max, or ten max.

Sure, 72o sucks, but when I get 72s, UTG, I'm all in! Guaranteed to beat rockets.

In the muck ...every time. If you can play it and make something out of it, great. That doesn't happen all that often. In the long run you lose.

I have seen a few TV shows that the players have a side bet if you win with that hand. Looked like a lot of fun, but I didn't see anybody collect.

23os is the worse hand H2H. 72os is a favourite against 62,52,42,32,63 etc etc etc.

Multiway though, 72os is the worst starting hand.

I think they are talking about a full table just checking it to the river every hand. So over the course of millions of hands 2 3 would hit more straights. Heads up 7 high is better than 3 high, this I'm sure of.

You havent seen the one where Hellmuth bluffs Matusow with 7 2.

Matuso is holding KK..

Superbly funny.

edit here it is YouTube - Phil Hellmuth with 7-2 bluffs Mike Matusow's Kings

I love playing 7/2 whenever possible, because if I hit the board just right with it, it will let me rake in a pretty big pot .

7 2 is great tv. I love it! It creates lots of action, but people loose lot of money with it cause they play 7 2 like they have AA
But when I play at home, my friends don't want to play the 7 2 :D Maybe that's a good thing cause 'd suck at it (bluffing ain't always that easy)
