Any1 know any good books/strategy for 7 card stud? I've read a lil bit bout it in a Phil Helmuth book (lol i know), but im startin to like it. Plus its allways a good to get away from NLHE every now n then as it can be such a boring/grinding game.
Thanks!!

Stud7 can be a grinding game in its own right, but I do prefer it myself in cash games.

I don't have a recommendation for Stud Hi, but Todd Brunson's section for Stud Hi/Lo in Super System 2 has to be one of the best.

Love playing stud

Stud is such a good break from Hold'em... I play it at the micro levels... and in the evening... don't want to play the euro donks... because all they do is call you down...

you want to play this against players that know the game... how to bet and how to respect your re-raises... you also have to be a lot more patient then hold'em...

Roy West, 7 Card Stud, is the best basic text around.

I wish I could find call down donks. All I ever seem to run into are re-raise donks.

I've found most stud books to be a waste of time. Its all theory based on old technology or simple stats. No one plays stud like they did in 1985. Players are loser and more aggressive not to mention there's a whole new network of Chinese stud players that have a whole different eastern philosophy mind set and the western authors can't write about.

Depending on the levels and the regs at those, play often goes 'by the book' to a certain extent, maniacs and chasers notwithstanding, and an understanding of basic starter strategy etc. is necessary to survive. Basics haven't changed much, in a limit game people who play loose and aggressive will get killed, unlike NL HE where it can pay off.

So I don't agree that knowing the theory and reading the books is a waste of time.

Love to hear more about these Chinese; I can't remember seeing many chinese players over the last few years. Where do they play, what limits, and please describe the mindset a bit; don't be so inscrutable. :p

There is a group of Chines players on poker stars. They all come from Fuzhou (foochow) which is located in Fujian. Fuzhou is like Brooklyn and Fujian is like saying New York. Its all the same place.

They play all levels from 2/4 to 30/60. I'll see Kissyao playing 30/60 with a $4000 stack and sitting at 2/4 with a $120 stack. This, I don't understand.
They never play each other heads up. They all seem to have huge, endless bankrolls.
At first I thought they were maniacs as they seemed to suck out a lot on the river. They take a lot of verbal abuse from the other players. Once they commit to a pot they go all the way to the showdown.

They do some weird things too. They come to a table, sit down, and then sit out. They also change seats a lot, usually right after losing a hand.

I honestly can't figure them out. I know they are winning, but I can't tell if they are cheating because they're all from the same area or what.
I know China blocks a lot of internet sites like youtube and facebook and probably anything to do with gambling, but maybe the Fuzhou network has a proxy or something....... I just don't know, but they are doing something different.

Personally, I don't have a problem with them, but they are taking a lot from other players. They appear to be pros because they are playing everyday all day from morning to night Asia time.

^^^ Txs for the info.

Yas, I remember running into a few asian or chinese names at higher limits at stars; 3/6 is a little above my reg limit.

With the stakes involved it is hard to believe these guys don't know each other. Yes I have seen a lot of chasing from them; they don't mind losing whacks of cash it seems.

But the fact that they remain indicates they are winning overall... Note use of the word 'they.' If an individual player kept pushing marginal hands and/or chasing in stud, they would get crushed eventually.

Would love to compare notes sometime, PM me if u like.

"I'll see Kissyao playing 30/60 with a $4000 stack and sitting at 2/4 with a $120 stack. This, I don't understand."

Seen this across platforms for years. PokerBrother does the same at Absolute. These people all disappear eventually and someone else moves in. They are fearless and are usually playing understaked players (like me) trying to take a stab at higher limits. I have won some big pots from these guys when they try to bully or chase me, but when their chase pays off they bust me hard, so they are controlling the game with their BRs. They can be beat but once they figure you are a good player they usually slow down and wait for a good hand. Just some random thoughts from when I was last up there, and lost a few buyins in the end. That was a few months ago.
