So I was just playing a bunch of 6-man SNG's on Stars. $3+0.25 and I realized something. First place pays $11.70 2nd pays $6.30. Obviously first place is a decent gain of $8.45, but I was not able to come first even once, partly based on bad play, bad luck, and actually some tilt becuase I HATE sng's. I however came second a few times, but the gain is only $3.05. So say you were to come 2nd out of 6.. 1/2 the time, you would still lose $0.20 during these 2 games. So either you should be making the money about 2/3 of the time in these tournys, or really shooting for first place, IMO. Does anyone here actually play these 6-men for a profit?

I think that for 6 man SnG's they are only profitable if you can consistantly win, say 1 win every 3 Sng's which should also include a 2nd place. If you're only managing to get 2nd a scraping a profit then when the luck is against you and you hit a bad run that profit and more will go.

Personally I prefer 9 man SnG's. Play super tight, and let the game get down to 6 people, then play aggressive with the tight image. Always playing the short stack unless a double up with a big hand early. I am just patient and usually I can outplay my opponents when we are shorter and then when we cash, I never think oh good we've cashed, I'm the short stack, lets go for it. I will play as normal and always get my money in good.

This is why I dont play turbo's. My style suits me better when there is more time for the donks to go.

playing those 6 man SnG's are the kind of tourney you should shoot out for the first place cuzz second place doesn't pay that good, so there just 6 players so not that much money is on the prizepool that's why goiing for first place is what you should aim for! i think 6 man SnG's are just for fun cuzz you'd have to be in first place most of the times to get any profit of it and well always first place ain't that easy so i'd guess people just play them for fun not for profit because if you tryed to make some profit of it you wouldn't be able to, it would be not that easy!!!

I play a lot of 6 mans, they're fun and not to be taken that serious. It's either win or nothing. The 9 mans are fine, like everyone said, play tight.

I have tried a bit of 6 SnG but like others said it seems difficult to stay on profit, my preferred is 9 table SnG tight till some leave then aggressive is the best tactic to keep cashing, aa and don't get on tilt is important:)

Nope

I stay away from 6 man sit-n-go's like the plague. If I play sit-n-go's I play turbo 9 player one's.Sit tight wait for the hand and u should cash almost everytime.Dont call away chips as every chip is vital in this format.By calling away i mean playing suited weak hands IMO atleast thats what I do.

just count the percentages of making the money here...
6 player sng: 33%
9 player sng: 33% chance
I dont see any differences in these two forms of sng, so dont see why not playing them both? 6-player ones are quicker so this actually seems as a plus to me. or am I wrong?

well, it's not really the percentage of being in the money, it's more the percentage of obtaining a higher ROI.
