5% is really 10%

poker sites have some kind of nerve to charge 5% rake. Considering that your own stake is part of the pot it means that you are really paying more like 10% rake, since most hands get down to two people putting equal amounts of money in. That makes Poker the single worst game in any casino or any gambling site. With so many poker sites around I really don't know how they can justify such outright gouging. They don't even have a building to pay for like real casinos.

5% rake does seem like a lot when you compare it to 97%+ return on investments from playing online slot machines but there is a big difference, which is that poker involves an element of skill and slot machines do not.

It's possible to beat poker over large samples, but with slot machines the odds are always against you and you will eventually lose.

Rake is often considerably less than 5% anyways when you factor in rakeback/rewards and the fact rake is capped in larger pots and at higher stakes.

it's 4.5% at pokerstars, and it's capped.

Yeah nobody should be complaining about online poker rake/entry fees, it is much lower than in the real casinos.

At my local casino, there is an $80+$20 tournament. 20% of buyin goes to entry fee! If that was online people would go crazy!
