Multitablers tend to be mostly quiet. So before sitting down, go to the lobby and try looking up some of the usernames at that table. If more than half the players at the table are multi-tabling, then you most likely WON'T get much chat there.

^^^^This, I don't chat much anymore but also found that on smaller sites like bodog, it is pretty easy to get chat going. I think alot of that though has to do with what Stick said as well, I think they used to have a pretty tight limit on the number of tables you could multi table.

what makes you do better at chatting tables?

players who chat are typically recreational players looking to chat and have some fun so they are usually poor players.

Howabout just opening up a few tables and see if they're chatting before you decide to join?

Sit down, sit out the first few hands, start chatting and see if they talk back. If not, call them all rude and leave. Or alternatively, call their AA shove with garbage and win, that tends to get them talking to you....

There will me times where I don't have chat up, usually I have the tourney info screen up to track how I am doing and see how many people are left. I try to avoid chatting in mtt or sng because usually people are just complaining to each other. In forum games I tend to leave the chat up because it is usually not that bad.

People dont chat much at these tables so you were lucky to have one at one table lol. If you enjoy chatting while playing join the PSO league at pokerstars. Nearly all the tables at these games are very chatty and if you do well in the league there is big money to be won... and its FREE!!!

+1 to this.

I find my own play to follow this pattern. If I am typing then I am either tilted or distracted, and neither one is good for your game. I am not saying every player is like this, but I would be comfortable saying it is more common.
