2009 World Series of Poker Schedule Released

No Rebuys, Another Delay in 2009
The final-table delay is back. There will be no rebuys. There will be a $40,000-to-enter no-limit holdem event. There will be more bracelet events than ever.

Those are the highlighted cliff notes for the 2009 World Series of Poker schedule, which was released this morning.

There will be 57 gold bracelets awarded this summer — two more than last year — including a premiere $40,000 no-limit hold’em event to commemorate the 40th annual World Series of Poker. The first event of the Series starts May 27, and the final table of the main event finishes up Nov. 10 — more than four months after it begins on July 3.

Card Player first reported that the WSOP was considering removing rebuys from the prestigious Series, and that consideration materialized today. All four of the 2008 rebuy events were done away with. This is not the first year that the World Series will not have rebuys, and only time will tell if the popular format returns in future years.

The poker community was also widely divided after Harrah’s and ESPN decided to delay the playing of the final table four months last year so that it could be played “nearly live” on prime-time TV. But TV ratings were up nearly 50 percent over 2007, and the positive buzz the delay created was enough of a reason for Harrah’s to bring it back for a second year.

The world championship $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, a five-day tournament, will kick off June 26.

The $10,000 main event will have four starting days, from July 3-6, and play will be suspended on July 15 once only nine players remain. The final table will be played Nov. 7-10.

HORSE is the most prestigious PRO tournament out there
The Main Event is the Amateurs "Rags to Riches" tournament
The 40K event will probably have a lot of pros in it, and I think they'll consider this their true NL Hold Em Main event.

I like this idea I think the main event has become like playing a freeroll for the pros . 6000 + players many of which didnt pay there way in all playing wild crazy hands (sound familiar) It wil be good to see a tournament with excusivly pros playing again.

WHAT’S NEW IN 2009 FOR THE world series of poker

General
ROOM RATES – Room rates are the lowest they have ever been for players participating in the wsop. Rates start at $69 at the Rio. For all Harrah’s property rates, visit http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/reservations/

THREE ROOMS FOR POKER – Down from five last year but offering more tables. Amazon, the largest will host 156 tables and up to 1,560 players; Brasilia hosts 94 tables and up to 940 people; Tropical features 45 tables for up to 450 players. (Gone are the Rio Poker Room and the area in front of Buzio’s restaurant.)

TOTAL CAPACITY – At any given time, 2,950 players can play during the World Series of Poker in 2009. (Up from 2,740 in 2008).

ENHANCED FOOD CHOICES – Between national brand name chains and new options, guests will be treated to a broader variety and bigger named establishments for their food and beverage options.

POKER PALOOZA – The World’s Largest Poker Expo returns in 2009 with a new name and bigger aspirations. Gone is the Gaming and Life Expo (GLE) and in its place will be Poker Palooza, running from July 2-5 and offering every imaginable creation for the poker enthusiast.

Tournament
TWO ADDITIONAL BRACELET EVENTS – Up to 57 in 2009, including two new No Limit Hold’em events, a new $1,000 buy-in stimulus special and a commemorative 40th annual high rollers event, with a $40,000 buy-in.

TRIPLE STARTING CHIPS – All events will feature starting chip stacks triple to the buy-in amount. This makes the Rio the best place in town to play poker this summer.

DEEPER STRUCTURES – Levels have been added to most bracelet events to allow for plenty of play at an affordable price. Combined with triple starting chips, players will have anywhere from 90-300 big blinds to start a tournament.

NO RE-BUY EVENTS – Of the 57 gold bracelet events in 2009, none will include a traditional re-buy format. Instead, a triple-chance structure and add-on chips will be utilized for certain events.

NIGHTLY NO-LIMIT TOURNAMENTS – Back by popular demand, the 7:00 PM $340 Nightly No-Limit Hold’em tournament with 5,000 starting chips along with a new addition to the nightly line up, an 11:00 PM $200 No-Limit Hold’em tournament with 3,000 starting chips.

SINGLE TABLE SATELLITES – Single Table Satellites move to the Brasilia Room in 2009 allowing players more opportunities to win their way into a WSOP event. There will be 48 tables available for satellite play, up from 23 tables in 2008.

PENALTY TRACKING SYSTEM – Players can expect penalties to be more strictly enforced this year and a tracking system will be utilized. This means player penalties throughout the duration of the tournament are tracked and players can expect repeated violations, regardless of whether they occur in the same event or not, will be handled with escalating punishment.

LOGOS – No more than 3 players at a televised final or feature table can don the same sponsor logo.

TWO MINUTE WARNING – The time allotted before another player at the table can call “clock” has been reduced to 2 minutes. (Was 3 minutes in 2008)

TEN AT TEN – There will be a total of 10 $10,000 World Championship events this year, up from 8 in 2008.

38 EVENTS AT $2,500 OR LESS – Never have more gold bracelets been up for grabs with less of an investment. In 2009, 38 events feature buy-ins of $2,500 or less.

Wow, I am already excited and I still have a long time to wait. I would imagine that the pros are going to treat the 40K event like the Champion of Champions event. Not to say the Main Event is going to be put off to the side, but there will be more top notch players in the 40K event for sure.

what do you guys think of the delay again? I personally wasn't a big fan of it.. waiting 2 months is a long time and i think it kind of takes away from the tournament a bit... I would like to see perhaps a few day delay.. It would be much more effective in my opinion if the final table was played perhaps 1 week later.. or even a few days.. nonetheless, looking forward to a amazing year on the wsop circuit..

I'm looking forward to watching 2009 even if i have to wait to see the final table. I'd obviously rather not wait but hey, it's whatever. The 40K event will probably really kick butt, but i have to disagreethat the 10K is getting like a freeroll. it's actually 10K more than a freeroll LOL!!! I hope the 40K is only this year because in the next 3 years I hope to be in the main event. I keep two separate bankrolls (one online, and one live) the online one stays pretty much low but the live is looking like i'm going to make it. When you see me on ESPN I want it to be in the MAIN EVENT!!! not the main event we'll be showing after the 40ooo dollar event. seems kind of anti climactic if you look at it like that.

This is lame that they are going to do the suspension of play of the final table again. By reviewing the plays of some of the players last year, really why do this again. Don't you lose your mojo by this delay that brought you to the final table? I just don't by in by other players saying they review video tapes of other players. Well everyone knows this and of course you change your play. I just don't like this format.

Whuh?!?!?

Rest of it all sounds good, but I just don't see how this one makes sense.
