I just logged in to pokerstars to see whats going on. Noticed a $100 / $200 high stakes game between wilhasha (stack around $100,000) and WCG Rider (stack $20,000). After gradually winning over $35,000 WCG Rider nailed it in the final hand with KJ versus wilhasha's K8 (both had 2 pairs) but WCG Riders two pair of KJ got him to about $120,000 and wilhasha sat out (down $100,000) in a quick session of Texas holdem no limit poker.

If I ever make it to the stakes where I'm playing for this kind of money I'm taking my giant bankroll and retiring.

This! I loved being able find and watch crazy high stakes games all the time. Maybe someday I'll be able to again.

Yup highstakes on FTP was a lot of fun, watched many of Gus Hansens games there. He had major upswings and downswings online, entertaining to watch. Must be sick to go through those kind of swings.

Those old FTP high stakes games would have been a lot more interesting back then had I known those guys were playing with my money. Might have actually been interested in watching them had I known that.

Very true, considering it was reported that FTP was a ponzi scheme with money being paid out to a handful of people operating the site.

Wow, I can't imagine playing for that much money...It's probably not a big deal for those guys though, they have millions.

You'd never get to the point where you would be playing those stakes with that mentality though.

True enough, it's not that they are backed, more like they sell action ect. But true about the mentality. Gotta have no fear!

Getting to that point and then deciding to stay at that point are two different things. People seem to want MORE and MORE. I on the other hand would like to get to a certain point then take my money, run and live a nice life...not get to that point go broke and have nothing to show for it. To each his own I guess.

No but I'm saying someone with the mentality you are saying you would display would never make it to high stakes so would never reach the point they would just stop playing, take the mnoey and run.

What a coincidence. I've just been reading some of WCG Rider's micro stakes posts on 2+2. Freaky.

No. A person such as myself displaying this mentality would make it to that point then take the money and run. I never said anything about getting a quarter of the way there and quitting or getting halfway there and quitting. I said if I had made it to that point I would take my bankroll and retire. I have a number in my head that If I ever hit I'm not going any higher as I could live comfortably without risking it any more. This doesn't mean that If I get close to that number I'm quitting it means if I hit that number or above. I don't know how I can explain this any clearer.

That being said. I have a wife 3 kids and a regular job. I don't have a casino near me to play live and I don't think getting to those stakes on any of the current sites currently offering service to the USA is probable. So it's just theoretical anyway. I'll probably just continue adding to my small bankroll while continuing my monthly withdrawals to pay the few bills that I pay with poker profits.

Ok then what's a lot of money? $100,000? $500,000? $2,000,000?

You would never reach a monetary goal that would let you live out life comfortably because to get to that point you'd have to give everything to poker, it's not as easy as I'll just quit tomorrow. Also before you reached that point if you jsut thought about poker in a pure monetary sense then you'd be playing with scared money and never make it to the highest games. You need a no fear mentality, which clearly isn't possible when you fixate on the money.

I'll maintain that nobody that thinks like that could ever get to a point where theyare at a point where they have enough to quit and live out life.

You can't retire comfortably on 200k lol some people are ****ing delusional about money. Even $2 million is pushing it. These guys play poker for a living, and I'm relatively sure WCG has had at least one -100k day before. When you play nosebleeds you're going to experience swings. But it's possible those games are the best way to maximize hourly. And it's not like he hasn't been spending money as well. So people arguing they'd play until they could live comfortably, I personally think that number is around 5-10 million. How are you going to reach that point if you're not playing nosebleeds ever?
