I don't know how many of you are aware that upper management at The Palms in Las Vegas cost George Maloof over $1,000,000 and the Poker Room Manager, Mike Vento his job when they signed a contract with the "River King" group to host a $1,000,000 plus FreeRoll reality TV show. The "River King" group turned out to be a fly by night outfit and George Maloof was stuck having to pay the $1,000,000 plus prize fund off or lose face. The finals of this event is being held at The Palms on August 15, 2007. Mike Vento became the fall guy for upper management's miscue of not having the prize fund from the "River King" group in hand before the FreeRoll promotion began in January of 2007. The GM that signed the contract for The Palms and the VP of Table Games for The Palms who oversees Poker Operations are both still employed at The Palms. Either George Maloof is not the sharpest casino operator in the business to think a lower management level like the poker manager could be responsible for this type of fiasco or upper management did a good job of pulling the wool over his eyes. Either way, the poker room at The Palms is a dead issue and has lost 65-70% of it's business. This is another example of how upper management's lack of poker operations hurts the industry.
