suspicious bad beat in Puerto Rico
Just wondering if anyone here has every got hit this bad.......I was playing at the Ritz Carlton in Puerto Rico a few years ago. The table was a cash game, 10-20 no limit. I had watched the game for two days before buying in. It was late at night (2am). It was a semi loose game with a lot of half drunk callers with marginal hands. I folded for about 30 minutes before getting pocket AA on the button. As usual everyone called the BB. I bet $1,500.00. The small blind called and then the BB raised $1000. Every one else folded. I re-raised $1000, putting the BB on KK. the SB folded and I got called by the BB.. The flop was A92 rainbow giving me AAA. The BB checked and I put him all in for an additional $1000. He turned over 7-2 offsuit! Giving him 22 to my AAA. The turn was another 2 giving me AAA22 and him 2229A. The river was the last 2! He had hit one out to make the winning 2222 hand. I am still baffled by the entire situation. The betting sequence makes no sense and the uncanny
odds of him going all in with 7-2 and then hitting runner runner runner 222 is even more suspicious. I'm still wondering if I walked into some sort of a grift. Has anyone else ever gotten pulverized like me at the Ritz in Puerto Rico? Just wondering. One more detail, the guy who beat me and the SB and one other guy were all speaking Greek or some other Mediterranean language. I asked the dealer if she understood them and she said no. So I then asked her to ask them to please either stop talking or to speak English since no one could understand them and collusion was a possibility. She refused to deal with them. Obviously, no one passed him a card but I still wonder if it was just a case of really bad luck.
