Cards Chat's best kept secret for winning at cash games is in my opinion the help and support of cash games professional John Anhalt.
If anyone stumbles across this post and for any regular readers who don't use his services I just want to say a bit about John Anhalt (John A on CC).
John is an experienced, full-time, poker professional who set up a thread in CC called 'Polished Poker', it’s an active thread with links to his free poker ebook 'Polished Poker'. The contents of the book are discussed in the thread and it is a gold mine of good cash games poker advice. I have been following the thread since Sept 2013 and it is the main reason I am a consistent winning player and never had to reload. Regular contributors to the thread have created a sweating group for improvement and further discussion. Currently this is in Skype but may move to a more stable platform soon.
John is in my humble opinion one of the most knowledgeable cash games professionals in the business and if you can use his material or listen to his advice then it will be to your benefit. I have no doubt that the primary source of his poker wisdom comes from the extra knowledge gleaned whilst creating his Leakbuster software for poker analysis. Leakbuster is a software that analyses your game for leaks in minutes in a way that would take hours using HM2 filters. John understands the best stat ranges for all aspects of the game and If you use Leakbuster you too will start to understand what ranges are best and why.
Clearly the fastest way to improve your win rate is to eliminate your largest leaks and Leakbuster continually rammed home what I knew and suspected were my biggest weakness, as well as uncovering all my other little leaks that you don't know are lurking without being highlighted by the software. I believe Leakbuster is currently having a graphics makeover to bring it right bang up to date.
Since using Leakbuster I have gone on to use his Ace Poker Drills package which is excellent for promoting correct preflop ranges and discipline and comes with an easy to use intuitive equity calculator that I still use on an almost daily basis.
The merger of Pokertracker and Holdem Manager created a bit of a monopoly in the poker tracking and analysis sector. John has bravely gone ahead and developed a direct competitor to PT4 and HM2 called DriveHud. This is a fine product with stunning up to the moment graphics and if you currently don’t use a tracker but are interested in getting one, I would advise you to look at DriveHud first. HM3 when it comes out is expected to be a lease product that will almost certainly be more expensive than DriveHud, you very likely won’t be paying a one off fee for a lifetime use like HM2 anymore.
I have seen John posting for free around the Cards Chat cash games forums for several years and I have never known him to give a bad piece of advice over hundreds of posts, he always seems to be spot on the money.
John also has a blog thread on CC which is packed full of free training videos and material. He also is associated to the Poker Zion training site which has been around for some years and is now having its content brought up to date. And no he didn't pay me to write this, I'm just an enthusiastic fan looking to direct CC members to good advice and get the sweat group revved up again if anyone wants to join then PM me your skype details.
