I see many players (especially pros) who start playing omaha. Why? Why don't they stick with holdem? Is this so profitable? more fish? I don't know the rules but I played a few omaha hands and.... it seems weird, it looks like you can get more coolers and bad beats. maybe I'm wrong i don't know. i want to hear some opinions from omaha players. what's the secret with this omaha? :)

If you are actually good at omaha you are probably the only one at the table that is. Huge edge obv.

Swings are huge vinyl.

BC the edges in NL cash games have been shrinking in years, NL cash is actually pretty boring once everyone plays correctly and some people like the gambly aspect (no, they aren't bad beats....its just that usually the equities aren't as one sided in Omaha when there are all ins) more in Omaha.

When I cam to poker from a hiatus in 2009/10, I knew not to just jump into the NLH cash games bc they had gotten reg heavy, so I learned other games and actually did quite well pretty fast.

Your job as a poker player is to seek out edges....I mean if you are doing it for money, not just fun.

i get your point man. Its better to get great at a game that not many people know how to play well than be average at a game that everyones good at.

Omaha has a steeper learning curve. Plus people who regularly play hold em overvalue their the same hand rank in Omaha.

For example, two pair in hold em is huge compared to two pair in Omaha (which is not so huge).

Way more outs to calculate too.

Also new players tend to constantly bet pot which is annoying, but hey it just means more value for the better players.

Just because its pot limit doesn't mean you have to bet pot :p

omaha has more possibilities which is why there's not many doing it. Hold em of course is more popular. I hope it sticks this way myself because i make more money off Omaha than Hold em. The only thing i hate about it , is the low. It can be very profitable if you're at a table with people who don't know what they're doing.
