First you must assume/agree that eventually the nations like Australia and USA will stop being idiotic and legalise full-level online gambling making deals with banks for $0 deposit tax etc.

If you agree that they will eventually give in and legalise it, you will see something:

1) Perfect randomness. GTFO of here with your 'rigged' nonsense. A human shuffler, especially at a standard casino where no form of machinery is used to assist the shuffling or even worse at home games where dodgy dealing can be happening between colluders... Online shuffling is true randomness especially PS which has physical aspect to its randomness not just software aspect.

2) Multi tabling... More hands per second, more bets being made per minute... More 'playable-range' hands coming preflop per hour... Think... Think... Yes, got it?

3) Faster hands = faster profit for consistent +ev playmaker.

4) Not having to worry about revealing body signals or hands shaking etc. Just much more pleasant really for me anyway.

5) Can smoke while you play (even weed)

6) Since it's not rude or can't get you kicked out of a casino if you consistently don't tip the dealer (on top of the higher rake than online) then you basically win so much more per 'win'. The caps on rake are also lower online than live.

7) HUD... For the less recreational player this is huuuuuuuuuuuge reason to play online [side note - ties in with point 2]

8) Can peacefully listen to your choice of music but STILL can follow chat of the more talkative players if they give read that way. More importantly can engage in chat while listening ot music.

9) Less 'bullying' for strange-playstyle players. If they call you donk etc just lick mute dont have to see their anger or whatever. Definitely don't have to fear being stabbed outside the casino on your way home for how aggro or confident you played.

10) pokerstars... it is so sexy to play on... <33333

It might not be your forte, but social interaction is why, in my opinion, it will never go extinct.

ps: how's your play money stack? Is it growing?

My sentiment still stands.

Although I'll agree that live cash games change in popularity depending on how the online poker in a certain region at the time.. I still don't see them becoming extinct.

With that said.. I have seen some dead poker rooms at times when there should be a few tables playing... but I think that's more on the casino itself than live cash games as a whole.

I completely understand why some people would favor online over live, though.

I don't think live poker will go extinct, yes there are many advantages to playing online as you have outlined, but they are two completely separate branches of the same thing. I personally prefer playing live games, it has a different atmosphere and I enjoy playing live games more, plus my local casino serves free soft drinks to the table.

Online poker suits some people well, and I'm not going to dispute that fact, especially tools like the HUD, availability of tournaments & SNGs, and the ability to play multiple games at once in different formats (Hold'em and PLO for example).

I live in a country where playing poker online and live are completely legal and with 0 deposit tax, there is still the same popularity of online and live games as there always was and probably always will be

Due to the wsop bracelets and thrill of tournament poker I doubt live tournaments will die out. Nonetheless the cash game format will.

The online gaming in the USA has a number of black eyes, so I do not see the US government making online legal in the near future. I enjoy live poker more than the online game.

Rational Madman,

I live in Texas. If you ever get the chance, plan a poker vacation to Southern California and stay at the Commerce Casino Hotel and do the LA sites in the day time and play live poker at night. If you took this vacation, You would understand why live poker is not going to die. The Commerence Casino has no other gaming only poker. You could also take a day trip by car to Vegas.

That is a fair point. I've never played a live game of cash poker. I know online I hardly notice the rake, but it might be different live. I know there will be more experienced opinions on here

I disagree, live poker is just more fun and also full of fish from the casino. There are lots of players who hate playing online.

I like both.

What part of Texas? I'm in N. Forth Worth.
My closest live game is Winstar Casino 65 miles away.
Looking for some local home games of 1/2 or 2/5

I am in Plano. I would recmend FTN Poker Club in McKinney for 1/2 and 1/3 with button straddle. Google (FTN Poker McKinney) for information. The Action is better than Winstar. They have about 4 games on weekdays and about 6 or 7 on weekend. You can check them out on Facebook.

Thanks for the info, but I think it would take me longer to get there than to Winstar straight up I35

I think their is a website homepokergames.com or something??

Live poker won't go exist as long as there's people playing it which isn't going to change because your reasons have been around for a long time.

Live tournaments won't, live cash games will and the current trend is proving me correct if you ask any casino owner they are earning much less per night of cash game hosting than they used to.

I enjoy live games 100 times more than online poker. For me live poker is the real actual poker because of the social aspects, of the live reads/tells and the athmosphere. How can anyone ever even say that live (cash) games will extinct ?

In the USA, casinos are earning less from poker than they did when online poker was fully legal.
The minimum buy-in at the casinos in my area is $60-$100.
Many players started online playing for pennies, until they learned about the game, and then tried the game at the casino.
They saw poker on TV, often sponsored by online poker sites. Now there is less poker on TV and almost no advertising for any kind of poker.

I dimly remember a guy who commented here that hated the idea that players used HUDs. There are no HUDs live. Many of us prefer it that way.
