Hello,

I'm a returning player and I had been fiddling around with micros for awhile.
I'm looking to get back to improving my game.

Can anyone recommend the latest and greatest strategies out there. (last 2 years or so). I fear my ideas are a bit dated with new games like Zoom being played now.

I'm quite familiar with basic strategies so I can handle the intermediate and advanced topics as well.

Thanks in advance.

Truthfully, I keep hearing how the game has changed. It really hasn't. Maybe a little more aggressive but not excessively, especially in the micros. They still suck. Just play your best exploitive game. If you could beat it before Black Friday you can beat it now. The best book for micros I have read is: Dynamic Full Ring Poker. It is still 100% applicable.

Thanks. That's kind of been my thinking as well. I hear it has changed but when I play it doesn't seem all that different.

I'll look up that book too.

My plan is to start at the bottom and build as I did before.

Thanks for this post here. I know that strategies to play the game has been changed. My strategy to play the games is first understand the game and then play it at the current time.

Before Black Friday, the game is somewhat soft and beatable.

Now, the game is tough like a rock.

I don't know how can poker change for 2 years but it's always something new. Not big changes so it isn't that hard to catch up.

Look for polished poker strategy thread here in cards chat. There is a link there to download the pdf book created by a cards chat member and poker zion coach. I am still reading it and learning from it at the same time using a trial version on the poker tracker.

Poker doesn't change much in a couple years in my humble opinion.

Start at 2nl, see how it feels. If your feeling confident, move up. If you aren't, stay until you can beat the level

rinse/repeat.

I guess as someone else has mentioned you can grab my book. It's free and should get you caught up.

I've played online 10 years now. The game has changed. By changed I mean, most people understand more advanced strategy and there are less fish at the tables then there was say 3 years go. That doesn't mean it's not beatable. It is, but it's more of a grind than it was in the past.

The market overall went down ~13% just last year alone. So when more people leave, it naturally means that game selection is becoming more difficult.

Belerophon, I think the best would just to adsorb everything you can and read as much as you can. I'm not an expert and I'm not trying to tell you that this is the right way but the fastest improvement I've seen was a person watching every video and reading about it and thinking about poker, as well as discussing about it. This particular person has also been playing a lot of zooms to get the most exposure, through his hard work and determination he was able to win a bit of cash and won one particular Sunday million on PS that's 200k. This hard work however took 1 year but that's through constant studying. The only thing that I can tell you that I've noticed about the game changing is the bet sizing. That's what I've noticed anyway :D. GOOD LUCK AT THE TABLE FRIENDS :):):)

Is the book "Dynamic Full Ring Table" applies in 6-max? I was playing full ting before but I found myself.comfortable in 6-max.

Most concepts apply but six max is kinda looser game and this translate postflop too , blind defence is much more important and this is not discussed too much on the book. Also its preflop recommended ranges are kinda too tight for six max , its good to read it to get some sense about postflop and preflop concepts but overall you will need to research further to develop a stronger default preflop game for six max.

Like what Tgen said, the book is for full ring and mostly applicable for 100BBs stack.

You can also read Easy Game by Baluga Whale if you prefer 6-max.

Just play a bunch of hands via zoom and you can have the feel for it all. Try tourney and sit and go. Try it all before you start specializing at a certain game.

At the micros the players are probably a little better, little more clued up, but imo the old strategy for micros is still the best.

Bet hands hard
Fold air
call draws only with correct odds
Be mega tight oop (True of any level)

Win

Hi Belerophon.

I think that the only change I can mention is people are now more prepared to play than they were. The sensible ones take less chances, because of forums and learning techniques, and the fish/ people with more money and sense are still there for the picking. I have copied John's post because I have download his book and only have read the first few pages I think it cannot be a better way to re-envigorate you poker energy. Gl and hope to see you at the tables. :D :D :D
