I've heard it here and there that you never slow play a set, but in this situation did I do it right or wrong? post replies, at a 10 max sng table, 6 players left I am UTG with AA blinds are 100/200 I bet 1000 2 folds next to act guy on button he calls 1000 SB folds BB calls 3 man pot, turn is A 9 4 with no flush draws BB checks I bet 400 button calls BB calls now I know I got um but am hoping a high card comes hopefully making one of these 2 dudes a hand turn is K BB checks I check button bets 800 I call BB folds river is 6 I know that never help him so I go all in at this point button calls and is all in. He show A k I show set of aces I win, my question is would you play it like this or not?

OK in that situation you had a relatively large pot before you bet the flop BUT there was nothing on that board that scares you. You could bet big and take it down there and that would be a fine play.

Now here is where you have to factor in what type of opponents you are up against; if your opponents are calling stations no point in deception bet it hard and they will likely call you against better players checking and hoping they pick up SOMETHING on the turn would probably be the BEST play. Only slow play a set against tougher opponents.

Personally in random online hold'em games I never slow play sets because you are very likely to get called anyway and you don't want some idiot drawing out a bellybuster straight for free! You did well before the flop and got a relatively large amount of chips in there so you don't have a BAD play!

Your goal now should be to get all your opponents chips in the middle ASAP or as many as you think you can. Checking and calling till the river and then check raising is best IF you think your opponent has AK because he will likely be commited and call you similar to what you did. So you played the hand well. Like I said though when determining when or if to slow play you must factor in what type of player you are up against a tight passive player will require checking it likely to the river but against most of the players you will run into online bet sets aggressively.

In this situation, you should slow play them. There is no risk of a flush or a straight and quite frankly, you had the nuts all the way (unless the turn and river made the board show three of the same suit). So to answer your question: in this situation, you slow play them. Most of the time you don't slow play them to drive out straight or flush chasers.

Be Honest, Your just fishing for praise. I give you what your after,

I don't think you could have played that hand any better, really, max value, you knew where you were all the way through, you let you opponant hit a big hand that you could beat and finally got him to call an ALL-IN.

Nice play.

i think that in a case like that where you no you have it won and its physically impossible for any1 else to win i think u should slow play and hope that they bluff at the pot because most of the time some1 would fold but lucky for u ur opponent had an amazing hand

Why bet the flop then check the K on the turn? This is a pretty standard bet-bet for me.

Slow play seems to burn me all the time. Slow playing a set is an O.K. idea but you have to have an ideal flop and no help after to get the chasers what they were looking for. In that hand you bet the 1000 pre-flop. After the flop I think I would have came back with the same amount. By throwing that 400 at them you might have made someone think you were slow playing them. You can't beat the guy with big slick though. He would have called you high or low. That third fellow might have been the chaser and nailed you both.

And how NOT to slowplay one. I hate the way I played this, every step of the way (barring perhaps preflop):

pokerstars 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

Preflop: Hero is BB with A♥, A♣.
2 folds, UTG+2 calls, 2 folds, MP3 raises, 3 folds, Hero 3-bets, UTG+2 calls, MP3 calls.

Flop: (9.50 SB) 7♦, 6♣, A♠ (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG+2 checks, MP3 checks.

Turn: (4.75 BB) K♠ (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG+2 checks, MP3 bets, Hero calls, UTG+2 calls.

River: (7.75 BB) J♦ (3 players)
Hero bets, UTG+2 calls, MP3 calls.

Final Pot: 10.75 BB

Am I missing something F Paulsson. Did someone have Q-10? or did the AA win?

Aha, well...

I won, yeah. I'm miffed because I screwed up and probably missed another 1-2BB (or more).

The reason I don't usually post the actual results of the hands is because it tends to cloud the analysis, and I prefer not to be results-oriented (but to focus on my decisions, regardless of the actual outcome).

The whole point of checking the flop there is so you can check-raise the turn, no? Preflop is fine, river is fine, flop is debatable and table/read dependant but check-calling the turn having checked the flop is horrid. Of course, you probably already know this. :)

you should always slowplay a set when there are no big draws out there. If there are no flush draws, str8 draws etc. you should slowplay hoping your opponent makes 2 pair

lol if you always slowplay a set then you are a predictable player and that is one thing you dont want to be in holdem if you plan on being successful.

i see nothing wrong with the way you played your AA, big raise preflop with max amount of extraction from other players after flop.
