I feel like this HAS to of been done millions of times. Couldn't find anything in the search though. I'm looking for a good post or discussion of when it is ok to min raise, particularly in a micro full ring situation.

Ironically, because of reading this a few weeks ago:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/7...raise-data-analysis-micro-stakes-long-131987/

I have started min raising when I have a great hand, like a set. I see more logic in doing this as opposed to doing it with a draw, which I don't do. I do it in situations where I don't think I can get away with a real raise yet want to extract money as well. Anyway, I never used to do it and now I do. I want to find out which is right.

This may tell alot about my bad play but the only time I min raise is if I'm weak like top pair crap kicker. If i raise preflop with a PP and hit a set on the flop I will always keep betting like normal or if someone bets into me I'm reraising close to pot, I just feel that when I see a min raise I'm 90% sure they have a monster and are trying to extract more chips from me, I'm more likely to chase or call with a pair to a 1/2 or more pot size bet. But thats me and I'm terrible LOL.

You shouldn’t minraise anytime in ring games much less in micro ring games. I really don’t see the point especially if theres multiple players in the hand and there may be a few draws out there, by doing that, you are only giving the others odds to call.

To get the proper value out of your hand and to push out the draws you cant minraise, its not logical in my mind.. There are a select few situations in poker in general where a min raise might be ok but not in micro ring games ..

If it’s working for you then whatever but I don’t understand it and it doesn’t work for me :(

I love players who minraise, I can always be assured to get the odds to call just about any draw when these players are in the hand

Ok, so your minraises are all for value, never on draws - if I'm villain and figure this out, (at micro you don't really have to worry about this, but somewhere around 50nl you'll have to start thinking about this) this is highly exploitable.

If you're making a minraise for value, will Villain fold to 2.5x? Will villain fold to 3x? Genuine questions, I don't know the answers at micro, and this is definitely villain dependent. For example, if you minraise me on a T52r flop after calling my preflop raise, I'll likely repop you w a wide range if I don't know that you only minraise w sets (and yes, once I figure this out I make a note on you and alter my play) - but I'll also do this w a 2.5x raise, so you'll get more money out of me w the 2.5x raise. In short, I think you're likely losing some value by minraising (i.e., I think if Villain will call 2x, he'll probably call 2.5x, and sometimes call 3x - you'd need to do a little math to figure out the optimal break point).

When you say you don't think you can get away w a real raise, what do you mean? A lot of villains won't let go of an overpair/TP at micro, so if you have reason to think that's the case...

The 2p2 post doesn't say positive things about minraising, it's more a discussion of how to respond to a minraise (and it's quite good!).

You have to switch your play. Do not do it always. Sometimes minraise nad then raise 1/2 the pot or potsize....
Do not let your opponents get this information!

I like the min check raise bluff from out of position. When it seems the other player misses his draw on the turn you make it 2/3 or 3/4 of the pot and the other player will laydown the draws plus quite a lot of good hands.

With this bluff you need to remember to also min check raise for value also to mix up your play.

I agree with flint. Min raise bluffs are usually effective. Mostly because too many people lead out to steal the pot, but also because they recognize the value bet and are afraid of a big hand.

I detest minimum raisers so much I almost always re-raise . Test them and usually they will fold. The only time I would ever minimum raise is with a monster I feel is nearly unbeatable. If I minimum raise,be scared. They are like little flies constantly picking at you and I would rather find out where I am than play along in most cases.

min reaising...

it's generally for weaker players that do not know where they are at...think about it what hand are you protecting? Or could you really be trying to bluff someone out with that puny little raise???...not likely..if you do this you need to know EXACTLY what you are doing...and generally you must be making a high-level trap (looking like you are on draw when you have the nuts) for this to have any effectiveness. You MUST insure that your hand is nearly unbeatable because you are obviously giving people great odds to call. Good luck to you in poker and life-:p

i'm assuming this is a min raise of a turn bet. this isn't just a min bet. in order to even call the turn bet(or turn cbet i imagine in most cases) shows strength and a min raise is usually something strong as this bet isn't one to see where were at. or to bluff someone out. its a suk bet to keep someone in or commit them to the pot to shove the river. or even to induce a shove.

Tough way to play. when It works it generally works well, but when you let others in you generally get what you didn't bargain for.
