I deposited $20 on carbon 2 months ago and I have been doing reasonably well so far. I cashed in the dollar frenzy which took me up to $168 but cashing in that tourney went straight to my head and I very quickly lost back down to $28. From there I analyzed some holes in my game and restarted. I started playing cash games where I now run 6 tables of .2/.4 NLHE. Over approximately 14k hands I netted a $54 profit. According to PTR my bb/100 is around 4.91 for that limit 9 max. With my profit and rakeback my bankroll currently sits at $91. I've been playing reasonably well and was wondering if it would be in my bankrolls best interest to take a shot at the .5/.10 NL game? I've been running well and have a lot of confidence to try that limit because the style of play seems to be very similar to the lower limit. I would also most definitely move down to 4 tables rather than 6 to focus more. What do you guys think? Worth a shot or grind some more 4nl? Thanks for any advice

the basic premise is always that you should move up when you feel comfortable doing so. taking a shot normally has two requirements:
1. have more in your BR than you would need to be comfortable playing the lower level.
2. have faith in your abilities and discipline in order to move back down if you start off by losing on the level above.

all that said, most people recommend a bankroll of at least 20BI (for 10nl = $200) to move up. i'd say you can easily take a shot much earlier than that, but even i would still recommend taking your roll to at least 120 before devoting 30 or 40 dollars to a shot at 10nl. and as always, do not forget to move down if needed.

Yep go by these two rules each time.

I would say 30bi absolute minimum unless you have beaten 10nl before.

I agree with this. If you've played before 10nl or higher before and have done fairly well, then you should take some shots. If you've never done it, just stick to small stakes. Online, its hard to keep playing small but having good bankroll management is what makes great players.

I made the jump from 1/2 to 5/10 after 2 weeks......terrible decision. Just because you win doesn't the next level easier. With that said, you sound like you have your head on straight and are a winning player. MOve slowly, its about thinking and making the right decisions, the money will come later!

i dont think the difference between 4nl and 10nl is that big of a difference to be honest.. I like to go with 25 buyins for complete change to the next level and i start adding tables of that level at like 20 or so buyins
