When have you beaten a limit?

I have been playing 2nl for a while now, and showing profit (even though it isn't much). I think from about 25,000 hands, I'm looking at about 4bb/100.

I still have a bit of a way to go until I'm rolled for 5nl, but would happily deposit the amount if I was confident that I could play well at that level.

Is this a stupid thing to do? Should I just spend the time at 2nl until I've made the money from there?

At what point can you 'officially' say that you have beaten a limit?

How many hands are you playing / month?

Off the top of my head I would say no more than 10k.

Only 10k hands per month makes me want to say deposit and move up now BUT...
4bb/100 is actually a really small WR for 2nl. You really should be CRUSHING it for at least 10bb/100 (maybe up to double that!). So I'd say stick at 2nl and improve. You're likely a winning player at 2nl but with a WR that small you might not be at 5nl.

How many tables are you playing at a time?

Ok, thanks, will give it a month or 2 and see how we're looking.

But back to one of my original questions, how do you know when you have beaten a level? (what sort of win rate should you expect, how many hands until you can realistically judge, etc).

At least at micro stakes you really shouldn't be playing a level long enough to KNOW for sure. You can probably be fairly confident after your sample but no where close to certain. Even after 100k hands all you really know is that you WERE a winner at a level because the game and your game are always changing and if you don't continuously keep up or you develop bad habits you can stay at the same level and BECOME a losing player.
