Trying to improve my preflop play vs shortstacks. Say 30bb and no reads.

If he opens for 3bb in EP, what type of hand do you need to 3b / call a shove with? (as 3b / folding must be extremely -EV against these guys) Premiums go without saying, but what about pairs 22-JJ (where to draw the line?), Axs or do we need something as strong as AJs? What about KQ, TJs and such?

How about being 3bet from a shortstack in the blinds (even as a re-steal), what hand would you need to 4b AI? See example hands above.

Thanks for any input! I think I play a too tight range in these spots.

When you have the equity and pot odds to call against their range.
Of course, but so what range do we apply to them as an unknown?

Just trying to get some input, examples would help too.

Vs an unknown you need to give them more credit and a stronger range of hands until you have a bigger hand sample on them.

For example, say you have 88, and a aggro player over a decent hand sample size who is running 40/35, 3b 20% you can 3b for value with the intention of calling off 88 given how wide this guy is.

If you have the same hand vs someone who or is running 10/8 3b 3% we can muck here easily.

Thanks! So basically giving them a standard TAG EP range (if unknown)? So effective stacks don't matter.
