Hi all.

Would be interested to know if any of you guys have specific goals and objectives when playing poker.

Mine are
  • 1500 FPP on pokerstar by 15th of each month - via ring games. After I hit this I do not play many if any more ring games in a month. I am happy just to break even here.
  • One final MTT table per week (Play about 10-20 MTT a week)
  • To cash in 20% of the MTT I play
  • To increase my bankroll by 10% per month min. ($2,000 bankroll at present)
Am I being too strick???

What do you think?

Op, you would be surprised of how many fpps you can make monthly once you move up levels. 40000 fpps/month at 100NL is pretty standart.

regarding goal. I don`t really put monthly goals. My main goal is to move up to 400NL or so (have only played upto 100NL regulary) and become robusto player. I have some expenses in my family, and the only way to pay for them is with a nice income. I think I will be able to do this sooner or later.

How many hours a week do u play.

yeah 0.50/1$. I usualy play 4 tables sometimes upto 8 when I`m about to jump a level. But I think sticking to 4 tables is better. about 40k hands/month. I think about 18-20hrs a week.

Those are good goals, I wrote them down and and I am going to compare them to my monthly play and try to set my own monthly goals that I will track and fine tune them for my play.
Thanks for the idea.

Poker Goals/Aims

Obviously - become a better player in general. I usually go in and expect just to play a sound game. I really don't want to be saying to myself for the longest time: "I made a huge mistake there - I should never have done that." Yes, everyone learns from their mistakes, but I just want to make sure that I'm making correct decisions all the time.

If I get outdrawn when I'm a favourite - I'm able to roll it off easier and not get too worked up over it - but if I know I made a critical error, it bugs me for awhile.

In terms of financial/bankroll goals - not too lofty since I have a tiny bankroll while I'm still in school. It would be nice to find more time to actually increasing it to a point where I can play .5/1 or 1/2 NL comfortably or 10/20 Limit before the year is through.

Anything can happen though

- Crush 1/2 6-max LHE by August next year (4 tables easily at 1+ptbb/100 hands).
- Increase BR as much as possible
- Get better (break even or slight winner) at mixed games and/or poker variants apart from LHE (stud hi and draw games especially) at low stakes.
- ROI over 20% at 10$ SNGs while 4 tabling.

Should be doable if I put my mind to it and study/play hard.

My goal is to make $10,000 within the next 4 months. Play at least 15,000 hands a month. Read at least 1 poker book a week. Win a wsop Bracelet.

Why is accumulating FPP's a goal? Shouldn't you be trying to accumulate money?

rob, he might be using fpp's as a benchmark as to how much he's playing.

You can buy stuff with the FPP and you can enter special tournaments. I think that is a good goal and its very possible as long as you don't lose all your money getting there.

Good luck with your goal.

Valid point!!!

However, notice I do say I want to increase my bankroll by 10% per month, so that is where the cash target is accounted for.

With regards to the FPP, I use them to play in satellites and also I aim to hit silver status allowing me access to the weekly $20k freeroll. I also point out that as long as I break even in ring games but make my FPP target I`m happy. This is because I feel I am a better MTT player than ring game player, but it is easier to accumilate points playing ring games.

Hope this clarifys my point Rob :)

Nice point about the FPPs. I use them as a goal as to how many hands per month i play. You also get access to the VIP freerolls, and if your earning enough some nice cash bonus.
