Live 1/3 cash game at local casino. 8 handed

In the button with AhJh. All have limped to me. I raise to 18, all but 2 fold, lets call them Pupils and Coolguy.

Flop is Js 2h 2c. It had been a pretty card dead night so I was happy to see that flop.

Pupils checks, Coolguy bets 25. This wasnt unexpected, he has raised almost every flop he has been in and backed off once someone re-raises, so his bet didnt put me off too much.

I was quite short, 65, so I shove. Pupils instacalls, Coolguy folds, low pockets I believe. Pupils turns over A2.

Turn came 10h, but river didnt complete the flush, 6c.

I dont feel like I should have been cautious because of the 2's, in any case im all in after the turn anyway (maybe), but what can I improve on this for future situations, is this the way to play it short stacked? And how should I have approached it if I was deeper? Come on, lay it on me :)

Looks fine to me. We are never folding the flop there. I may make it a little more pre.

Yeah, there is no way we are folding this hand on this flop - just unlucky. I agree with raising a little more pre flop since it is a 1/3 game - at first 18 sounded fine since I play 1/2 but maybe 28 gets the job done, although if someone is calling raises with A2 not sure if you can get them to fold without just shipping it pre-flop

Preflop, you have to bet big.

Anyway, on the flop, theres no way we will fold our hand.

Its just bad luck Pupils hit his hand.

1/2 and 1/3 r always full of calling station donks. They call all in shoves with draws. Pretty bad.

Sound like you played the hand perfect to me. You got unlucky like everyone does, that's why it's considered gambling. Maybe next time the donk in the small blind will fold that garbage and you scoop.
