I was playing 2-4 limit last night and almost busted. Had it down to 25 before coming all the way back to 290. Anyway, topic?

Proper bankroll management dictates that you should be playing no higher than 10NL ($0.05/$0.10) cash and $1 or $2 mtts. This may seem conservative, but you need to preserve your bankroll if you ever want to build it up.

Play a game that you win. If you don't know what limit to play, take a tip: study first. Make a coaching and maybe you will win... maybe, just about 10% of all players earn some money, the others looses a lot.

10NL to be on the conservative side. Throw in a couple 25NLs here and there to keep it fun.

Why not protect your bankroll by playing in $1.50 6 player sit & goes?

This way you limit your losses to only the buy-in's on any given game, and depending on your skill level, these games are fairly easy to come in the money.

Slowly build up your bankroll and skill levels while minimizing your exposure to losses.

Well.. what is the difference in what you've said than playing 2nl, 5nl.. or.. you know.. cash tables and still just being able to lose what you've got on the table? You can actually play with 100bb at least for hours not having to risk IT since blinds will never grow.

I think you could play 5$ stake. If youre a beginner i suggest that you go lower. Also there are alot of tournaments that should be good for this bank roll. Poker knock outs as well. You should try it.

How different are the 9 handed cash games at the different levels. If I am a winner at the micro games will I do well at high stakes.

General rule of thumb for good bank roll management.

20 - 50 buy-ins

On the lower side if you play a tight, low variance game and higher if your play a higher variance game.

I play a low variance game but i still like to have 50 buy-ins just to feel safe. I have never had to reload when sticking to this guide line.

There are a lot of great posts here about proper bankroll management and playing a stake where you have 20-50 BI.

I'll offer a slightly different view - aggressive v conservative

And your path depends on your level of comfort with playing the stakes that you would be. From your original post I get the impression that you're fine sitting at a 2/4 table - but if you're not then read on.

Aggressive: 20 BI + >4 BI One Stake up
Translation: 25NL
Why? If you're super comfortable playing 25NL, I've seen recommendations to keep 20BI back at one level & use the balance to move up in an attempt to grow your bankroll quickly. If things don't work out, then you still have 20BI to move down to.

So here...20BI @ 10NL + 4BI @ 25NL = $300

Conservative: 40BI + >10BI One stake up
Translation: 10NL
Why: You maintain a safe, healthy roll that would allow you to play 5NL, and only move up when you have made 10BI at the next stake. That way you're less swingy in terms of moving up and down, but it will take longer to progres.

So here...40BI @ 5NL + 10BI @ 10NL = $300

You can go between the two but you ultimately need to play what you're comfortable with. Regardless of the stake - playing scared will almost always lead to failure.

300 will last a day or two on the 2/4 limit game.

My opinion is that, at the $ 300 bankroll you owned, you had to play at $ 0.02-0.05 $ No Limit tables.

The good bankroll management says you should have 50 buyins of the limit you want to play in. Once I didn't follow this rule myself. I had about 10bucks and by playing dons made 100$. But then lost fast. I regret this. As I thought I can play and were lucky÷)

Everyone who has advised you to play low, very low is correct, UNLESS!!!!

you are a very good player, meaning this, play the high level you belong in, maybe the buy in is $300!!! If you go broke, go work and save up another $300, you will make $300 in the real world way way faster than playing 10c/5c poker.

play where you belong, especially if you are thinking of even making part of your living at it. playing below your level will not make you a better player AT ALL.
